Hi William Hunter
That is a very hard question to answer, because they make so many different kinds of oil for compressors.
You failed to mention your manufactures name of the compressor so
I will guide you to the following webpage and you will find your answer there.

HDC 2HP 5 Gal Pancake Air Compressor - replaced pressure switch - now takes long time to pump tire - motor runs long time - slow recovery - actually overheated and melted off the plastic part on muffler....

Barb:
Your compressor takes standard 30 weight compressor oil or 30 weight motor oil... you need to put in the correct amount. The slow recovery is due to a leak somewhere. after adding the proper amount of oil, run the compressor and use a soapy solution to check for leaks. Check especially the tube that runs from the compressor head to the tank, and also check the air connection at the pressure switch. When you find the leak, you can disconnect the connection and use Teflon tape on the male end connector.

My compressor throwinng oil from breather andair.

It is normal to feel air coming from the breather. It is there to relieve pressure in the crankcase. If it is also throwing oil then make sure it is not over filled and also make sure you are using NON-DETERGENT oil. That is very important as you should never use regular motor oil.We use 30 weight non-detergent for all the compressors that we service.

What type of oil do I use in model CPLDC 2541S

If you mean the CPLDC2541S (Porter Cable air compressor), you need to fill it with an air compressor oil. The recommended weight is SAE-30 (API GC/CD heavy duty motor oil). You can use a SAE-10 oil in harsh winter condiions. The manual is available from Manage My Life: http://www.managemylife.com/mmh/owner_manuals/20237/PORTER-CABLE-Air-compressor-L0309172 .

I hope this helps.

I have a 5 HP Coleman air compressor. I was using it to provide air to my plasma cutter which requires 60 psi to operate. Basically, air compressor's motor keeps running, but it's stopped creating air...

You did not list model number, however if you have oilless type check the cylinder/piston by manually turning crank until piston is at top and examine cylinder for wear or scratches. If worn replace cylinder kit for full pressure. If ok check reed valves /valve plate for wear or broken reeds. If oil bath type, problem is usually air leak or reed valves / valve plate. As a general rule, you can keep track of wear by noting how many minutes it takes to fill the tank to cut-out. As the compressor wears it will take increasingly longer to fill. When new, and depending on tank size/ hp, most compessors fill within 2 ~ 5 min. Good luck

Just got a1999 jeep wrangler sport with a 4.0l 6cyl and 124,000 miles, what is the best oil and oil filter to use. anthony

There are several different oils to use. I would run a high mileage oil if possible, the brand really doesn't make a difference, but on the oil fill cap it will recommend the proper weight such as 5-30 or 5-20 or 10-40, etc. Proper weight in a high mileage oil is best. Oil filters are about the same way. FRAM being probably the most popular and widely used.

What grade oil doI use to change the oil?

Your comressor comes from the factory filled with Jenny Synthetic Blue Compressor Pump Oil. This is a 30 weight oil.
The picture below is Ingersoll Rands version of this oil.
I use it and have no complaints about it. It's also a lot easier to get.

That said any 30 weight oil will work. Although I would recommend synthetic because that is what the motor was broke in with.
Hope this helps.
