Trying to get on line with my new laptop and my cisco Linksys E2000 router is asking for the security key, where is the security?
If you enter into the configuration mode of your linksys,go to wireless and in security the section for enter the passphrase or key is what your router is asking for.copy that and use it.

It's really easy to find your wep key if you can log into the router page. Usually the router is defaulted to 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1
You put that number after the http:// in a web browser and it should ask you for a username and password. Either enter the username and password you set it up for, or if you didn't set one it's probably admin admin. Now there should be a page with a bunch of settings. Near the top click on the tab that say wireless, and under that tab there should be something called security. The WEP key you have set up should be in here. The WEP key is not the passcode, just wanted to point that out. It's most likely under something by the name of key 1 or something to that affect. That should take care of your WEP key problem. I would personally recommend upgrading to a wireless G router if the other devices on your network can use G. Wireless G is much faster and also allows the use of wireless B devices on it. Hope I helped. If you need more help just ask, I might be able to get some screenshots up or direct you to a manual.

Try to reset the router. This should resolve your problem. That model has a small hole were you must press with some a paper clip for exemple for a few seconds. This will reset the router to its original state.

Is there any computer connected to the router with the Ethernet cable?
If not then connect 1 computer to the router and open the router set up page. Once you open the router set up page, you will be able to find the wireless network key.

Are you trying to set up the router.
You can do it manually without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online through the modem.
If your computer is not able to go online through the modem then you will need to call ISP first.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem
then you need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.
