Question about E-Machines eMachines Desktop PC

1 Answer

I'm working on my mother-in-laws emachine. It turns on, but wont boot up past the bios screen. I have tried researching what the root cause is, but I can come up with is maybe a cd bootable disk.

My friend's emachine with Windows XP Home version doesn't want to boot up. Once it tries it just keeps rebooting itself, and won't go past the first screen.

Does the Hard disk run? (listen for the sound), is there a permanent red light on the front?

You have to try again cause if the process was interrupted the installation was not completed .and thi si steh reason that it does not boot to windows ..So ..reinsert the disk ..and go back from thebegining ..If it does teh same ..make sure you read what s teh problem ..It may be something related with missing drivers if you have a sata hard disk ..In this case you may need to use a diskette with the drivers needed (raid ; achi ) and install them as 3rd party ..or simply go to bios and disable the raid or achi mode for the hdd bus..and let it run in compatible mode or native ...Install the operation system ..than all drivers including raid ..and after that go back to bios and let it run in raid mode..if you think this is how you want it to work ..
let me know what you've managed to do ..

Have you tried booting into Safe Mode? You can do this by pressing/tapping the 'F8' key after the bios screen (Acer Screen) comes up. If it does you boot correctly then, you can try to restore the system to an earlier date using System Restore. That's located in the start menu/windows orb at All Programs->Accessories->System Tools->System Restore

My mother-in-law's IBM Thinkpad will not boot. When she turns it on, there is just a lock icon at the top of the screen. It is a secondhand laptop, but it worked just fine for a few months. What could be...

Someone has got into the BIOS configuration and entered a Power On Password and when you enter the correct password you can then enter the BIOS to remove this password or allow the laptop to boot up into Windows.
This password is stored on an EEPROM chip and there are no backdoor passwords available.
The Power On Password is used to protect the laptop from unauthorized access.

Computer crashed, not sure how to recover it and what to use.

TRY BOOTING WHILE PUSHING F10 OR F11. MOST GATEWAY AND EMACHINES HAVE A RECOVERY PARTITION FOR A BACK TO FACTORY RECOVERY.

The mother board has a battery if thats the one you took out you reset the bios, Try pressing the delete simutanuosanly after turning on the computer then in the bios goto boot device priority and select your hard drive press f10 which is the save and exit. Try turning on your pc again and see if it boots off the hard drive make sure you give the computer time to re-boot itself after you change the setting in the bios.

EMachine T3406 wont boot

is there a post beep when the pc is switched on. check the memory if it is a beep beep beep sound , also disconect the hard drive, dvd drive, floppy, and any usb devices and see if it boots up. if that fails it does seem like the mother board, also check the cpu fan has it stoped. also find out the power switch conector on the mother board, from the base unit switch to the mother board. also chech the power connector from the power supply to the mother board , on newer boards there are two that go to the mother board its self , a big one and a very small one .

Emachines wont boot

Bad capacitor(s) on the motherboard can cause this problem, corrupted BIOS maybe... try flashing BIOS.
Probably the CPU if your not getting any error code beeps on startup.. NO Processor for the BIOS instructions thus no Beeps !
