Locate the "Fn" key in the lower right or left corner of the laptop keyboard.

The "Fn" key typically has different colored text on it or the key itself is a different color.

Locate the function (F1 through F12) key at the top of the keyboard that disables or enables the touchpad on the laptop.

The key typically has an icon that resembles a touchpad with a finger touching it or a touchpad with a diagonal line through it.

Press both the "Fn" and touchpad Function key simultaneously to reactive the touchpad on your laptop.

Move your finger along the touchpad to verify that it works.

Press the combination at any time to disable the touchpad again.

hope this helps

Jumper location for toshiba satellite L850

From memory, there is no jumper. Look for bare solder pads near the bios battery... usually marked 'RST' or 'FRST' or similar. There will be a few pairs of pads grouped, you only need to short out the RST ones (a pair) Its a bit of a juggling act, but short them out during the process of applying power to the laptop. so... short out, maintain the short, plug in power, power up laptop, maintaining short for about 3 seconds..... remove power, restart.

Touchpad not funjctioning on Toshiba Satellite L40/45 laptop

You might have inadvertedly disabled the touchpad.

1. Press Fn + F9 to enable the touchpad.
This key combination acts as a switch, enabling or disabling the touchpad: press once to enable (if it is disabled), then press again to disable.

2. If the touchpad still doesn't respond, check the settings in the mouse control utility.
Click on the touchpad icon on the right side of the task bar if you see one or click Start button/Settings/Control Panel, select the Mouse icon and Press Enter.
Change the settings if necessary.

Synaptics touchpad not working

Have you looked at the Device Manager to see if there's a problem with the touchpad?

Start -> Control Panel -> System -> click on Hardware tab -> click on Device Manager button. Do you see anything that indicates a problem with the touchpad?

Also, you might want to check the BIOS to see that the touchpad is still enabled. I doubt that this setting would have changed, but it's worth checking. When you boot the computer you should see a message that says something like: "To enter setup press XXX" where XXX is the delete key or some other key. Once you're in the BIOS poke around to see if you can find the settings for the Touchpad. Different manufacturers use different BIOS' so I cannot tell you exactly where to look.

Good luck.
