Im assuming you have Windows XP so I would recommend getting the latest service pack for Windows XP. If this doesnt work go to Control Panel > Performance and Maintenance> Power Options. On Power Option Properties click on the "APM" tab and check box "Enable Advanced Power Management support" and the click "Apply" then Close.

Toshiba Satellite P205d S7479 shuts down suddenly when on battery. The battery is brand new.

Try to turn off the laptop
Remove cables and battery on the pc
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds
reinsert battery and cables on the laptop
Turn on the laptop

Check if the PC still shuts down. If it is, try to connect the power cable without the battery. If it turns on, call your pc manufacturer to replace the battery....

I was shutting down my toshiba laptop, its now frozen.

If nothing else works remove the battery, leave it for 5 mins then replace it and it will start as normal. Yyou will get an error message usually saying it was not shut down correctly and it may do a system scan but unless there is a real problem with it that will restart it. Ive had to do that twice with mine in the last year.

Satellite screen is blank & won't shut down

Don't know why the screen is blank. Toggle the F9 key to make sure you didn't accidentally toogle off the screen.

As far as turning off the power and shutting down the computer, the old stand-by is to take out the battery and then pull the plug. The computer will power down. Replace the battery, replace the plug and then push the start button. You may have to start it up in SAFE mode since the shut down process was not the "normal' process the computer expects to follow.
