Was watching TV and now Black with White Lines

Hello-We were just watching a DVD and TV(Satilite) and suddenly we have sound but no picture just a black screen with white lines. Can't watch DVD either but have sound. Should I call for a repairman? My husband was using the Sony DVD remote and pushed it while watching Satilite but nothing we try makes any of the Video 1-8 work. Thanks for any advice. Black and white picture with red lines vibrating with sound.

More info would be nice. Are you using HDMI or Component cables. If it is component cables (red, blue, green for video white and red for audio) Check your red and blue connection. Green alone will give you a black and white picture.
If you are using an HDMI cable, replace the cable to see if this changes anything or if you have another tv swap cables to see if problem stays with tv or moves to another tv.

Philips 60PP9200D went black and white.

Hi , it seems you are experimenting a light engine problem. Here's how your tv works: Basically there's 3 LCD chips that create the colors and image by blending together. When these chips start to melt you will get those blue spots, pixelation ,black and white picture, even vertical lines. You will need to replace the light engine. Have a blessed one!

My dvd player is outputing a black and white picture both on its own screen and when connected to a tv.

this has to do with picture compatibility between the TV and the DVD player.

To resolve this, check picture settings from your TV and change it to PAL or AUTO.

From DVD, change to NTSC or PAL. This could be gotten directly from the DVD remote.

All the best.

Picture Problems: Snow, color, lines

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer2_bing.gif Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Trying to connect my dvd to the tv plus i have cable

You can use the following:

TV Connections:
  1. Composite (red, white, yellow)
  2. Component (red, blue, green)
  3. HDMI -
DVD Player Connections:

  1. Composite (red, white, yellow) - comes standard.
  2. Component (red, blue, green) if you have it.
  3. HDMI - if you have it
You can use any of those to connect the dvd player to the tv. You can use the remainder to connect the satilite box.

White arched lines appearing on dark/black screens.

it sounds like you are seeing the vertical retrace for all three colors together (white). Its possible that all three screen adjustments (red, green, blue) are off, but I suspect a problem with the screen power supply.
there is also a recall on this set

Component input makes all pictures black and white?

You can also check to make sure you're on the correct TV input. I've seen this happen if you use S-Video for example, and the TV is set to a composite input by mistake. If you're using S-Video make sure the yellow composite cable is unplugged.
