How can i tell if my keyboard is backlit in inspiron 15r?

If you press any key on the keyboard, the back light should come on automatically. If not, hold down (Fn) function key and press "right arrow" with a blue florescent symbol until the back light is lit. Pressing the "right arrow" key while holding down the (Fn) key lits the back light and can also reduce, increase the light.
Hope this helps

Down arrow light on top right is on what does this mean

It is the scroll lock indicator. Look for the ScrLk key above the Home key on your keyboard and press it to deactivate the light. Had the same problem...just figured it out!!

Model 9109; above numeric pad there is three lights, right most light is a down pointing arrow with a line under it. It is lit and I can't turn it off, and I believe it is effecting my movement in excel.

On the 10 key pad you will see a Num Lock key. Pressing this will take the light off and restore the functionality you are talking about.
Take Care,

What is the symbol with the light indicator for?

That's the Scroll Lock indicator.

While not really used for anything today, Scroll Lock used to serve a purpose in DOS text editors - if it was on, and you'd press the Down arrow on your keyboard, the document would scroll down. If it was off, you would move your cursor to the line below it.

It should also work on Microsoft Excel - try it. Open up Excel, make sure Scroll Lock is on, and press the Down or Up arrows. Now turn it off, and see what happens.

If you don't know how to turn it off, search for a key marked "Scroll Lock" or any short versions of that name. If it's in a different color, you may need to press Fun+ScrollLock for the light to go off.

That is the scroll lock light. To turn it off, look on your keyboard for a button that says scroll and press it and the light should go off. Hope this helps.

Love my new Saitek Keyboard, but I don't what some of the buttons do???

You can download a manual here: http://www.saitek.com/manuals/eclipse_manual.pdf For the 1, A, and Down Arrow: My guess is that these are actually the indicator lights for Num Lock, Caps Lock, and Scroll Lock. For the four silver round buttons: The top right corner of your Eclipse keyboard features a set of controls for changing your computer?s audio volume and the brightness of the Eclipse Keyboard?s backlighting. To reduce audio volume, press button A until the desired volume level is reached. To increase volume, press button B. To mute the audio output, press button C and press it again to cancel mute. Press button D to control the brightness of the backlighting. Press the button to scroll through lights off, lights full brightness and lights half brightness.
