Keyboard not working

Hello and welcome to FixYa,

I want you to unplug all usb devices to your Thinkpad. phones, keyboard/mouse etc.

Then press your windows key and R at the same time;

in the box that comes up; type in devmgmt.msc

hit enter;

click keyboard to expand it;

inside that you should see keyboard selection; (standard ps2)

right click it

left click this to uninstall

restart your computer

problem should be fixed. If it is not; get back to me and we will go from there.

Let me know how this worked out for you. If my solution helped you, please rate this solution!
It doesn't cost anything and only takes a second, but it is greatly appreciated.

My Acer Aspire AS4315-2004 Notebook screen display is very unstable. shaking badly and opening all sorts of windows . Cannot shutdown as screen does not allow hitting the shutdown icon with the mouse....

CHECK OUT YOUR KEYBOARD, COULD BE SOME KEYS ARE NOW STUCK. IF POSSIBLE USE EXTERNAL USB KEYBOARD TO IDNENITFY THE MAIN COURSE.....OR ON CONTROL PANEL ON YOUR ONSCREEN KEYBOARD.

The keyboard on my laptop is locked and i cant use it to search but upon startup it works and i can input the password to open it and then it locks again

It sounds like your keyboard device driver. It may have been "updated" automatically.
Do you have a spare USB keyboard or can you remove one from a desktop temporarily?

Power OFF the laptop and plug in the USB keyboard. Power ON laptop.
Use the USB keyboard, not the laptop keyboard for this procedure.
First, does the USB keyboard work w/o locking up?

Anyway, Go to the "Device Manager" by right-clicking "My Computer" and select "Manage".
A list of Your computer devices will appear on the right window. Expand the +Keyboard and find the HID Keyboard Device associated to your laptop. (Pick one by checking the properties of each one to see which one may not be working)

(( btw, HID = Human Input Device ))
You can either "UNINSTALL" it or "UPDATE DRIVER"

When finished, reboot, remove USB keyboard if you want to and the laptop keyboard will work just fine, or the OS will "find" it first , then start working ok.

Follow the steps, it will work.

If you have got a usb mouse plug it into your computer then go to control panel>system>hardware>device manager and go to pointing devices. Right click on the + sign next to keyboard and touchpad, click on uninstall. Then reboot your machine, take the usb mouse out. Windows will reload the correct drivers for the keyboard and touchpad as new hardware and your problem should be resolved.

I hope this helps

Dvd/cd-rom not working

From the desktop, right click on My Computer and select Properties. In the System Properties, browse to the Hardware tab and select Device Manager.

In there, expand DVD/CD-ROM Drives and right click on the appropriate hardware and select Uninstall. Click on OK when prompted.

Reboot the computer. After entering the desktop environment, the computer should start installing the drivers for the DVD/CD-ROM automatically (after startup applications are registered).

Hope this helps :) Kindly leave a rating. Thanks..
