I don't belive there is a reset device for the MP500 tanks. However, when you get the empty error message, just follow the instructions about pressing OK as many times as it asks for (I think it is four time). At that point, you can continue to use the cartridges. The printer will no longer keep track of the ink level. You will have to do that yourself. But, you can continue to use the printer with all colors.

To open the printer, just above the front control panel you use both hands & pull upwards. The whole top of the printer will open up. The ink cartrifges will be close to the center of the opening. The printer should be on for this. There are two ink cartrages. The one with the black lid is for your black ink. There is a small tab in front of the cartridge lid. Push down on the tab & the lid will open. Remove the old ink. Remove the tape that is protecting the the bottom & copper back side of the new ink. Place the ink into the printer. The copper back that runs from the bottom & up the back side about 3/4" goes into the printer cartridge. The colored ink goes into the other cartridge holder, it's lid is blue. Again press the tab just in front of the lid & it will pop open. Repeat the above removing the protective tape & install the ink.
The ptinter will want to run either a test page or allignment page or both. You will need your manual. If you do not have your manual you can download it from this site. Click the link below.
Click "Start download" & save it to your Pc.

Reset is not needed. Just turn off your printer power supply and turn it on. It will automatically detect the newly installed cartridge, provided the original compactible cartridge is installed.

Alright, I gave in and busted open my Series 11 KX703 color cartridge
to figure out how to refill it. As Inksaver pointed out there are six
columns which ultimately lead into three ink wells the bottom two (next
to the cartridge head) are magenta, the upper right two are yellow and
upper left two are cyan. Each well has one sponge in it that soaks up
the ink. Each of the six columns has a hole predrilled in the center
of it just below the top layer of plastic (about 5/16" from the left
and right edge and 1/4" from the top and bottom and 1 3/16" (midway)
from the top and bottom for the center two holes).
When I do it again (with a new cartridge since this one is busted), I'd drill three holes, one lower right and the two center holes, push the metal syringe down into the foam about midway and inject each of the foams with new blood. If someone else tries let me know how it goes. Hope this helps.
