Question about Toshiba TheaterWide 62HM84 62" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television
The green light flashes, then the red. Tv then powers down and restarts. Still no display, no sound. If it was just the lamp, you should be able to hear sound from the channels right? What can it be. Some say it might be the ballast. What does the ballast do? And will just changing the lamp work? Why does it powe down after a few tries and repeats itself? Please help. Thanks
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Is the Lamp ok? Go to the rear of the set and turn on the set with your remote while looking at the vent slats. If you can see a bright light through the vent slats then your Lamp is working. If the lamp is on and you have sound and no pix, then the Digital bd is in what we call "Video Mute" and will have to be replaced. Also make sure that the Lamp Door is installed and the screws are tight.

I found R3 on the original board to be open, along with reading an open on CR1, D5 and D6. All the other transistors and the transformer check out. The only thing I have to do now is find out the specs of the diodes. The replacement board also had CR1, D5 and D6 open (R3 was OK). There had been some threads on various locations where remanufactured boards had bad components (the transistors were changed but not some of the other components).

I HAD THE PROBLEM OF BULB NOT TURNING ON. SOME PEOPLE SUGGESTED TO GET THE BULB CHECKED WHICH WAS ALRIGHT, SOME SUGGESTED TO CHANGE THE BALLAST WHICH WAS SMART BUT THERE WAS NO WAY TO CHECK IT OTHER THAN PUTTING A NEW ONE AND TESTING IT. I CALLED THE TECHNICIAN AND HE CHANGED IT BUT STILL NO PICTURE AND SAME CODE OF BULB NOT WORKING. THEN HE CHECKED FUSE ON POWER SUPPLY RIGHT NEXT TO WIRES BRINGING POWER SUPPLY TO BALLAST BUT IT SEEMED OK. HE DECIDED TO CHANGE IT TO SEE IF THIS FIXES THE PROBLEM AND WE CHANGED IT. WE TURNED ON THE TV AND WALLAH. SUGGESTION IS TO CHECK EVERYTHING BEFORE SPENDING MONEY ON NEW BALLAST OR BULB. 2 CENTS OF ADVICE, IT IS SOMETIMES WORTH TO BRING SOMEBODY WHO KNOWS WHAT HE/SHE IS DOING.
