Ihome ih9 wont work with 3rd generation ipod nano

my black ihome ih9 can play the radio, tell time, and the alarms work. but when i plug in my 4gb 3rd generation ipod nano, it wont play my ipod's music. i have tried resetting my ipod and that doesnt effect anything. My ipod also has the latest software. I have also tried playing the ipod in friend's ihomes, and it works.
