Re: tooooooooo Bright

I would start by making some voltage measurements on the signal processor IC to see if the black level pin voltage can be varied. if not that might be the issue, but I have a feeling that it will vary so lets look at what else could be wrong. I know I harp on this circuit so much, but I have seen its failure so many times that I suspect it when ever HV issues occur. Inside of your TV there is a circuit that is supposed to shut the TV down whenever there is excessive HV pulses coming from the HV output of the IHVT (flyback transformer) if this circuit fails there will be an excessive amount of HV delivered to the anode of the picture tube, and this would cause the picture to become too bright. In addition this could be caused by a failure in the HV/Horizontal section of the TV in question. I would begin checking waveforms and voltage levels in that section if the brightness control on the signal processor IC is indeed working but not controlling the black level of the picture. I can not tell you what components are bad, just that you should concentrate on the HV/Horizontal section and the shutdown circuit for measurements. Get a schematic. If you dod not feel comfortable doing this take the set to a qualified TV technician.

Red colour appearing on screen

Your tv could have one of several faults. None of which are to be tackled by anyone except a qualified engineer due to the electric shock hazard.the first problem could be the crt (tube) the second could be the componets on crt base circuit board ie resistors or ic.
With a tv 9 years old it may not be economical to carry out a reair.

Won't work just bright red screen

check the G2 voltage on the tube base board it should be +- 520 V >if this voltage goes high it can cause scan lines and bright colours/loss of RG or B

Brightness of picture

If you feel good about opening your set then you can try this: Look for the flyback (high voltage) transformer, with the thick red wire which goes to the top of the picture tube. There are 2 controls on the flyback transformer, focus (top) and screen (bottom)Turn the brightness and contrast all the way down and then increase the screen control until you see retrace lines, and then back it down until those lines just vanish. Return the brightness and contrast to normal and adjust the focus control, if necessary, for a nice sharp picture. Let me know if that brings your brightness back.

Pictureis very bright

With the brightness problem, first have you tried adjust the brightness on the menu. if not try to adjust it first if nothing happens set it in the middle. and if you are confident enough to fix the tv while the power is turned ON, 1.first open the back panel or back casing to expose its components turn it OFF first before opening it, 2. next if you have the schematic diagram of the (PCB) Printed Cuircuit Board find the variable resistor (VR) for brightness. if you dont have the schematics for the TV, try to find it on the PCB its a flat piece of metal that has 3 terminals and a rounded face that can be turned to increace or reduce resistance. it is mounted standing up. usually it is beside another VR for the horizontal control. it is labeled as brightness on the PCB surface. 3. when you have found it plug in and turn the TV ON tune it on the clearest channel that you can find, 4. and then using a non-metallic screw diver turn the resistance plate that would be the face of the VR first slightly turn it to the left then check the monitor for results you can place a mirror in front of the TV so you can check while adjusting the VR. just make slight turns on the VR Left to Right until picture is clear. **remember to use a non-metallic material to turn the VR to avoid elctricution. With the with white line problem or i usual call it the Stick. there is already a problem with some components on the vertical section on the PCB. it would be any of this parts the Capacitor, resistors, trancistors, and i would suggest that for you to have it checked by a technician coz it would be hard to determine which parts is faulty.

Tv is too dark

You didn't say how old your TV is. If it's very old the picture tube could be weak. IF not then there is a screen adjustment on the flyback transformer that you might try to adjust. Sometimes you can access this adjustment without removing the back cover. If you see an adjustment through a hole in the back of the cabinet marked "SCREEN" then you might try turning this control clockwise while watching the picture in a mirror. Only a slight adjustment may be needed. Don't make it too bright or the set may shut down or have small white (retrace) lines in the picture. If you have a projection TV then dust on the three picture tube lenses will darken the picture. These are general statements that apply to different TV's. I assumed that this is a direct view 32 in.
