Question about Dell Inspiron 700M Notebook
I have tried all the basic stuff. Hook speaker up sound is fine !
Sometimes the wires break, dell had a small design flaw on thier end, it's an easy fix, just remove your keyboard, splice the 4 wires back together and you'll have your sound back... I had that issue happen to me, I just seen broken black and white wires when i took it apart, and fixed it.... A simple 10-15 minute task....you can do it yourself and save a few bucks too!

The best thing to do is go to Dells website, choose "Support" then "Drivers and Downloads" plug in the Model and or Serial Number of your laptop and it will show all the drivers that is for your model including the sound driver for each Windows version.
If the sound still doesn't work use your Restore CD and look for the sound driver there. If that doesn't work go to Device Manager and uninstall all sound driver, reboot and it should load the correct driver that the system recognize or you have to point manually for the correct location of that driver you downloaded
