Question about Gateway CX2608 Notebook

1 Answer

Spilled onto Acer Aspire laptop

What should I do ?!?! It was an ounce of beer, a splash!, not even that!

Turned the keyboard sideways and drained out what I could, which was not much at all. Held on side and blew coolish air from blow dryer over keyboard. Took battery out and there is no moisture at the bottom anywhere (battery or air vents).

What to do?!

It is upside down now , drying out I hope. Battery is still out.

When i put the battery (after about 20 min's), the blue lights on the accessory keys came on for a second or two, but the laptop would not power up and the screen did not ever indicate life... .

LoL! I agree! You should only drink if you CAN'T compute! That was the sad thing too! It wasn't even MY beer! I didn't notice it until I had bumped the desk and it started its quasi-slow motion fall towards the keyboard.

I was actually in awe of my cat-like reflexes executed with super hero like speed...nothing but a blur!

That laptop 'healed' its self though; so all ended well for laptop and the owner of that particular beer.

    ;o)

I suggest you download for $6 the service manual for your laptop here
http://www.9manuals.com/gateway_sm.htm
You take it appart and clean everything electronic board component side and wired side with alcool (not beer, something like 90%), you wash the plastics, and build everything back together.
Before pushing the power button, pray a little bit ;)
20mn was too short anyway , next time it's two days min. by hot days.
Good luck and don't forget to vote,
cheers

My acer aspire E1 laptop does not power on after I

Do not power it up. If only water it will eventually dry out but beer is sticky and requires proper cleaning. Maybe take apart, rinse with water to remove residues and allow to dry thoroughly covered in rice to aid drying. However if it was on when the spill happened it may well be fried.

Beer spill on wireless keyboard

Usually if you try you can recover it ..but it may have permanent damages and some of the keys not work proper..You need to open it up ..and clean the plastic sheets inside ..with water ..and after that to dry them well with cold air ..The issue is that the beer is sticky when dries out and keep those plastic sheets either in permanent contact or not at all ..but the keyboard may be still functional ..
I had recovered keyboards from this kinda faults before ..pay attention on the electric part not to damage it ..and be patient as in brain surgery ..

I have an acer aspire 5517 model spilt a beer in it,now of course some of the key are really sticky, when i try to enter my passwod i get several letters appearing with one key push, how do i remove keyboard...

Here you go: http://support.acer.com/acerpanam/Manuals/acer/2009/ServiceGuides/SG_Aspire_5517_09172009.pdf
You may want to just replace the keyboard since they only cost in the $30 range. Do a google search on acer aspire 5517 keyboard.
The beer might have gotten into the motherboard which could be a real problem. Good luck.

I spilled liquid on my Acer Aspire One netbook, and now some keys don't work on the keyboard. How do I fix this problem?

Below is the link to the service and repair guide. Change out the keyboard...they do not do well with spills. They are really just one big circuit board. Buy one cheap on Ebay and change it out following the guide below.

Acer Aspire 5610 - one key does not work

Laptop keyboard are semi-sealed circuit boards. This means that liquid can get into the contacts and can not be cleaned. Depending on how much liquid was spilled on the keyboard chances are that the liquid has seeped around the edges of the keyboard and down onto the mainboard of the laptop. My first suggestion would be to keep the laptop turned off until you can remove the keyboard and check for liquid damage to the mainboard. If there is no damage to the mainboard I would suggest buying a new keyboard before turning the computer back on as any shorts caused by the liquid damage on the keyboard can cause damage to the keyboard controller circuit on the mainboard.
