Leaking from the front door

If the washer is leaking from the door, more than likely the door bellow (gray rubber seal) is causing the problem. The bellow can become mishapened from constant contact with the door over time and not seal properly. There is no adjustment on the door, so when the bellow becomes worn, it must be replaced.

The following link explains how to access and replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r3574186-installing_a_door_bellow_on_a_front_load

A replacement bellow (if required) can be purchased at any of the following web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices differ between sites so shop and compare. The first three sites on the list, have helpful exploded view diagrams to assist you with locating and identifying any parts you may need.

The part number for a replacement bellow for the model you have listed is 8182119.

NOTE: The manufacturer recommends that you leave the door OPEN between washes to, not only allow the bellow to keep from becoming permanently stretched, but also to allow the wash tub to breath to prevent mold and mildew from forming.

If you have any questions, please post back and let me know. I hope this helps you.

I have a Kenmore Elite model 110.45872 402, front load washer with a torn bellow. Could i get instructions on how to replace this emailed to me? I have the seal but no instructions

To replace the door bellow on a Whirlpool Duet front loader, the following link explains step-by-step how to replace one:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385210-replacing_door_bellow_kenmore_elite

Read through the link provided and let me know if you have any questions.

NOTE: There is another method you may try as well. Although I do not prefer this next method because these washing machines are very heavy, an alternative way of replacing the door bellow is to remove the lower toe panel and tilt the washer back at a 45 degree angle instead of removing the washer front panel. If you use this method, make sure it rests against the wall and will not tip forward. This allows the wash tub to drop down and away from the front panel and gives you access to the the rear bellow clamp through the bottom. This can save you some time. Thanks to user DGBG for the helpful tip.

If you would like some helpful exploded view diagrams of your washer that you can reference, you can use any of these web sites:

searspartsdirect.com
appliancepartspros.com
pcappliancerepair.com

Just use your model number to begin your search criteria.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

NOTE: These door seals do wear out and require replacement from time to time. However, overloading the washer to the point where items get caught in the door area can contribute to premature wear and tear on the bellow.

How to replace the door bellows seal ?

Unfortunately the service manual will not tell you how to replace the bellows.

Tilt the machine back to create more space between the front on the door and the outer drum. Remove the screws for the kickplate and remove the kickplate for easier access. Open the door and remove the spring clamp holding the bellows to the door opening lip. Push the bellows into the drum to get access to the outside/ rear of the bellows (where it connects to the drum). There you will find another clamp which you loosen/ remove with a socket. Some models have an overfill tube on the top of the bellows (remove it from the bellows). At this point you should be able to completely remove the bellows.

Align the new bellows to the outer tub. Attach and tighten the inner clamp (be careful not to over tighten and periodically check the bellows and clamp placement as you're tightening to make sure it doesn't slip off). Attach the overfill tube (if equipped). Lay the machine back to level and install the front of the bellows to the door opening lip. Re-install the spring clamp by starting at the top and working your way down both sides (may be easier with 2 pairs of hands). Be careful not to overstretch the spring on the clamp.

Test with a quick fill and let it agitate for a few minutes to ensure there are no leaks (be ready to hit cancel and have a few towels just in case it leaks). Re-install the kickplate, make sure machine is still leveled correctly by trying to rock it diagonally from the top. Enjoy clean clothes!
