Question about Philips MX5500D System
When I play music stored on my ipad i can hear the sound but have to turn the surround sound up to the max volume to hear anything and the sound is very quiet.
Maybe your ipad's volume is low - volume settings for ipads are different when both plugged / unplugged

cross check the audio device settings. check the audio level of each channels.
Also try exchanging the speakers whether the speaker itself is damaged.
Hope this helped.

SOURCE: philips HTS8100 owner. Have
Same problem with my HTS8100. Little-to-no sound. Sometimes sound comes on very intermittently. I downloaded the software patch from the Philips website and installed it. This fixed the sound problem for about a week, then the problem came back. I'm not sure what else to do.
