Question about Samsung DV448AEP 7.4 Cu. Ft. Electric Front Load Dryer - Platinum Stainless
Heard the running dryer make a thunk, and now it just makes a humming (motor?) sound.
It sounds to me like the drive belt that goes around your dryer tub has broken.
The back of the dryer will need to be removed to gain access to the problem.

It sounds like your drive belt might have busted. Remove the back panel and you will be able to inspect this. Here is a link for the belt.

I was cleaning mine and doing the same thing last night. Washed a load of clothes tonight and went to dry them and everything works on it except it won't spin or heat. Heard the same type of popping noise last night cleaning it out. Have you found any solutions? Mine is just over a year old. I did some reading and thing that the dryer belt came off its assembly possibly. Have you found a solution?

If this is the older type, then the dryer drum is rotated by a thin loop belt that goes around the drum and then a pulley on the motor. I had to replace my 20 year old dryer belt on a Whirlpool a couple years ago. The front comes off and the belt slips over the drum. The front of the Whirlpool is held on by friction clips that have to be pried off with a flat blade. I suspect that you can do the same. look on the internet for a diagram of your dryer or you may have one in the manual that came with the machine.

There can be many reasons why your dryer will not start or turn...
The most common causes are the belt breaking or jumping off, or the motor goingbad...

Check to make sure your child lock is off first. Hold the time and signal buttons simultaneously for three seconds. Unlikely, but do check. Some of these dryers have a safety switch that the idler pulley has to engage to allow the dryer to run. I tried to find a schematic for this model but could not get one to tell if you do have a safety switch. Look at the arm of the idler pulley and see if it is contacting the switch actuator correctly. When a belt breaks or pops off, sometimes the arm of the pulley will move to the other side of the switch actuator and will not allow the dryer to run once a belt is reistalled. I would also look to see if a wire was knocked off of the motor switch when your belt came off. Good Luck, Appliance Specialists

SOURCE: Dryer will not start, motor
I believe your start capacitor has failed. You can remove the motor and have it repaired at a motor fix place in your town or have someone come to your home and fix it ... or ... you can get the numbers from the device and replace it yourself. Be careful with the leads of the old capacitor. It may not be entirely drained of power.
