Question about Sony Dvcam DSR-PD170 DV Digital Camcorder

1 Answer

Cannot manually adjust or access menu on Sony Dvcam DSR-PD170

I get no response from the camera when I press menu or try to adjust the white balance, iris, shutter speed, gain, or audio levels. I have the Auto-Lock selector set to Auto-lock release (the center setting, not AUTO LOCK or HOLD).
Thank you.

You need to set the auto lock to centre position , and then you need to check the camcorder,if still it doesnt work then you need to take the camera to a good engineer for repairs

Try using a head cleaning tape recommended by Sony.
If after two or three passes it does not improve, you should take the camera to a Service Centre for a clean and adjust.

I'm trying to capture video from my sony dvcam dsr-pd170 onto my laptop but can't a wire that will hook up the two devices together. What type of cable am I looking for?

Hi, you have a choice of USB (If you are on Win XP or older Windows) or Firewire cable if new Vista or Win 7 okay? or you can use the standard Red/Blue/Yellow connector cables, 3 in camera, 3 to the PC, mostly these sockets will be on rear of PC close to Speaker socket.
Take care,

My PD170 Start/Stop button cannot work (all 3 buttons). There's also no explanation on LCD. I already try to leave it for some hours with cassete compartment opened (hopefully it's only moisture problem)...

Sony cameras have a Hard-Lock switch that prevents buttons being pressed if locked, also make certain the tab on back of tape has not been slid to protect mode.
