A lower state of being on. The system puts hardware to sleep, like the hard drive, network card, and so on... It saves power and keeps the battery charged longer without having to power off.

These are Power Options settings that are set.

It's in you power settings. It puts the computer into a state of hibernation, shuting down all processes that are configured under the advanced power settings. You can adjust these settings to your preference,. I don't use it perfering to unplug my laptop when not.

Sounds like it is going into Sleep or Hibernation mode.
In Control panel go to Power options and see what the settings are.
Getting out of sleep mode is accomplished by pressing the power button once.

I have set up the hibernation settings for when you close the lid but now it wiont come out of it when the lid is opened

Hit the space bar or enter key to wake it up. Maybe you have to pres the Power Button to wake it up.

Read the manual to see how to wake it up.

Get online and got to www.google.com In the google search box type: "Dell Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for Manuals on the site and search them on hibernation.

Below is what your manual says to get out of hibernation you have to press the Power Button (very last paragraph at bottom).

Hibernate Mode Hibernate mode conserves power by copying system data to a reserved area on the hard drive and then completely turning off the computer. When the computer exits hibernate mode, it returns to the same operating state it was in before entering hibernate mode.
notice.gif NOTICE: You cannot remove devices or undock your computer while your computer is in hibernate mode. Your computer enters hibernate mode if the battery charge level becomes critically low.
To manually enter hibernate mode:

  • Press <Fn><F1>.

or

  • Click the Start button, click Turn off computer, press and hold <Shift>, and then click Hibernate.

or

  • Depending on how you set the power management options on the Advanced tab in the Power Options Properties window, use one of the following methods to enter hibernate mode:

    • Press the power button.

    • Close the display.

    • Press <Fn><Esc>.

note.gif NOTE: Some PC Cards may not operate correctly after the computer exits hibernate mode. Remove and reinsert the card, or simply restart (reboot) your computer. To exit hibernate mode, press the power button. The computer may take a short time to exit hibernate mode. You cannot make the computer exit hibernate mode by pressing a key or touching the touch pad or track stick. For more information on hibernate mode, see the documentation that came with your operating system.

HOW DO I TURN ON THE LAPTOP WHEN THE SCREEN IS BLACK AND THE BLUE LIGHT BUTTON IS ON

This problem can happen after using the disc clean up tool which can disable the hibernation file. Try the following:

Click start>all programs>accessories. Right click command prompt and click run as administrator. Type: 'powercfg -h on' (without speech marks) in command window and hit enter. That should enable the hibernation file and hopefully solve your problem.

I have vista on my dell inspiron 531s. Once it goes into hibernation, it won't come out of it when I move the mouse. I have to turn it off without powering down correctly. How do I fix this?

If it didn't used to be a problem, but now is, and you've added some program recently, try removing that program. Other than that, the solution is probably too difficult to track down, so open the power settings in your control panel and set the power savings mode to never, never, never to keep it from hibernating.

My laptop has went into hibernation and shows a small moon and that the battery is in use. I took out the battery and it still shows it in use. It won't come out of hibernation and won't go back to...

The moon means Sleep or standby mode, if the laptop attempted to enter hibernation and sleep mode at the same time it could just be stuck in a hibernation loop and unable to load.

To test this, remove the battery and AC adapter, then hold your power button down for thirty seconds. Once you've done this replace the battery and power cord then try turning it on.

Let me know how you make out and if it doesn't work provide any other details you can including anything that comes on the screen and any beep codes you hear as it fires up.

Thanks and good luck,

Chris

Hiberation mode ,,what do i do/

Hello,

Hibernate mode is a power saving feature for computers. In hibernate mode, the current state of a computer is saved to the hard disk, and the computer shuts down. A user will have to power on the computer to restore the previous settings. When a computer resumes from hibernate mode, it reads the saved settings from the disk and restores the system state as it was before it entered hibernate mode. By default, hibernate mode is disabled. If a computer is not ACPI-enabled or APM-enabled, users will have to enter hibernate mode manually. Users cannot set the computer to automatically hibernate after a certain time. With ACPI-enabled and APM-enabled computers, users are able to set hibernate mode automatically

How to enable Hibernate:
Please follow this steps below to enable your Hibernate features:

1. Go to Main screen in your windows then right click your mouse to an empty area in your main menu.
2. After clicking the right click please select the properties then go to Screen Saver Tab.
3. Please Click the Button name Power then click the Hibernate Tab.
4. Please check the CheckBox name Enable Hibernation to enabled the hibernation if it is not hibernated.
5. To try test the Hibernate process please follow the steps in How to start using Hibernate below.

How to start Using Hibernate:
Please follow this steps below to active your Hibernate Features:

Make sure all necessary programs are closed prior to shutting down. Hibernating will put all programs to "sleep," but some programs won't start up properly. Experiment after this to figure out which programs perform as intended.
  1. Click Start and Shut Down,
  2. Point the standby button and maintain the shift key pushed,
  3. A new hibernation button appears: click it while still holding the shift key: voila your PC will hibernate.
Thanks

Inspiron 1000 keeps going into hibernation when plugged in

Does your laptop really shut down or is it going into hibernation mode. The way you can check is to enter the control panel and click on the power options. You will find power options for both battery and AC operation. Listed there is the time that the computer will run without any input before it goes into hibernation mode. If you wish to increase that time, just enter a different time. Or you can choose the "never hibernate" option.
See if that works for you. I'm assuming that your computer is just sitting there with no activity when this happens. If this is not the case, then we have to do a bit more troubleshooting.

Hibernating

What do you mean shutting down the hibernating mode? Stop it happening when the battery goes low, or shutting down into hibernate mode?

My acer computer will turn on but wont come out of hibination mode

Some laptops have issues with Windows XPs hibernation mode. To get the computer back up again you should just hold the power button down until it shuts off completely. Some laptops won’t shut off even if you do this. When this happens you have to take the battery out to get it to turn off. Make sure it is not plugged into the wall when you do this otherwise it wont work.

Once you get the computer back running again you may want to disable hibernation if it seems like its going to keep happening. Go to Start, Settings Control Panel or Start, Control Panel and go to the Power Options icon. Change the hibernation section to never. You may want to try standby as an alternative. Standby saves all your running applications and documents into RAM while hibernate saves them to the hard drive. Hibernate uses less power from your battery, but it will take you considerably longer to get the computer back up. If you always plug the computer in then you may want to disable standby and hibernate since you really dint need them while plugged in.

Let me know if this works.
