Question about Brother IntelliFax-2820 Laser Fax
"Drum error" is caused by dust or something similar (such as ink) on the drum.
After I refilled the toner with a different brand of dry ink, I got this message.
I carefully checked the drum and found there was some residual ink on the drum. So I took off the toner part, washed the entire drum kit with tap water, then let it dry. Also, there is a rubber roller inside, which took longer to dry.
After the drum kit was dry, I rotated the drum manually. There was some kind of residue on the drum, so I used a tissue paper to clean it. When the part that was exposed was clean, I continued to rotate the drum to clean every part of it.
Finally, I put the toner back and inserted it back to the printer. It is now working just fine again.

Yes, you should replace the drum unit if you have not done so. You may have a broken corona wire or drum. However, keep in mind that you will need to reset your machine after changing the drum unit. If after replacing, you still get the same error, you may have a problem with your machine properly sensing your drum unit.
