Drum error My Brother MFC 7220 says "drum error" and that I should clean the corona wire. When I do clean the corona wire, I still cannot print and the error does not go away. Do I need to buy a new drum?

Thanks - I had bought a drum but did not install it until now (in case I wanted to return it). It works great! I had not thought about a broken corona wire.

"Drum error" is caused by dust or something similar (such as ink) on the drum.
After I refilled the toner with a different brand of dry ink, I got this message.
I carefully checked the drum and found there was some residual ink on the drum. So I took off the toner part, washed the entire drum kit with tap water, then let it dry. Also, there is a rubber roller inside, which took longer to dry.
After the drum kit was dry, I rotated the drum manually. There was some kind of residue on the drum, so I used a tissue paper to clean it. When the part that was exposed was clean, I continued to rotate the drum to clean every part of it.
Finally, I put the toner back and inserted it back to the printer. It is now working just fine again.

Yes, you should replace the drum unit if you have not done so. You may have a broken corona wire or drum. However, keep in mind that you will need to reset your machine after changing the drum unit. If after replacing, you still get the same error, you may have a problem with your machine properly sensing your drum unit.

Also, before replacing the drum, ensure that you have returned the sliding blue tab on the corona wire to it's original position, as this will cause an error if not properly positioned.

It sounds like the corona wire may be dirty. Its a wire that self-charges to attract toner to the paper. Read your manual and see if it mentions print quality problems. If you decide to check inside this device, please disconnect the power cord.

Try cleaning the drum in the toner cartridge with a soft cloth. If this does not work then a replace toner cartridge is the other solution.

BROTHER MFC-7220 When I print paper comes out with black line on right hand side of the paper. Its like somebody took a black marker and ruler and made a straight line from top to bottom.

The first thing I would try is to fix the corona wire. Here is a link to Brother's website outlining the process (clean corona wire).
What you need to do is pull out the drum and look for a blue tab on the top of the cartridge. Slide that tab back and forth along the wire and see if that clears things up.
I have had some luck cleaning the drum when I get black streaks but I have also hear this can be dangerous and make the problem worse.

My brother mfc-7840w printer keeps telling saying there is a drum error and will not print. i clean the corona wire and reset everything yet the same thing happens again and again. how do i fix this?

The drum is the photosensitive roller that the image is charged onto so I'm afraid cleaning the corona wire won't help. If the drum is removeable try reseating it, otherwise it looks like you may need to buy a new drum kit for it.

I have a Brother MFC 7220 printer. When printing, there is an almost indelible, yet noticeable line down the left-center of the page. How do I get rid of it? In short, how do I clean the Brother MFC...

This could be the result of several problems. The quickest, cheapest, and easiest thing to try is to clean the "corona wire". This is done by removing the drum/toner unit. On the drum unit (the big grey cradle) is a blue tab with an arrow on it. Slide this back and forth twice, being sure that the two arrows line up when you are done. Put it back in the machine, and make a copy or print from your computer to test the quality. If this does not solve the problem, you may need a new drum (every 12,000 pages) or a new toner cartridge (about every 2,500 pages).

Pls Clean Drum

The drum is the larger plastic unit that slides out an the toner cartridge fits into it. The corona wire is the very fine wire at the front top of the drum. Just slide the little cleaning tab back and forth.

Ok when you pull the drum out you should see a blue tab . You take that tab and slide it back and forth and this will clean the corona wire. Now when your finished make sure the tab is placed back from where you first started. I hope this helps !
