The pumps and motor pullys go bad on those.tip washer back against wall and inspect there.motor pulley melts ,the pump pulley breaks loose from its spot welds and then will rub metal to metal.when ordering parts replace belt too if damaged.if worn wont get a good spin and then dryer has to work over time.[power bill up.up,up.thanks for using fixya.God bless, tom

Washer squealed, gave off black smoke in spin cycle

For sure change the belt. Clean the pulleys with a solvent to remove anything oily or like melted belt. The machine probably was overloaded. If it's a front loader, check the bearings.

Loose belts on Maytag Washer LAT2300AAE

It is normal for the belts on this model to be loose. Normally the noise that you are hearing is either the damper (a white plastic type material, comes in a kit) or the pump making the noise. Take the belt off the pump and put it into a spin cycle and see if you hear it. If so ck the tub bearing for rust or leaking and the damper for wear. If you don't here it, ck the pump.

My Magtag Neptune TL 6800 started making a horrible squealing noise then smoke started coming out of the washer. What do you the problem may be?

You need to replace the belt needed to spin the drum. It sounds to me like you may have been overloading the drum, putting too much stress on the belt. Over time, it has begun to " burn rubber" as it spins, causing smoke, or worst case scenario, the motor that turns the belt is locking up as the drum spins causing friction on the belt.

Its possible. This one has two, located underneath. Lean the machine back to check them. Make sure all pulleys turn freely before replacing them

I have a top loader maytag washer which doesnt want to spin on the spins cycles or will it agatate? any ideas

Usually the machine will not spn because the lid switch is not working properly. It could be stuck or broke. Do you hear a clicking noise when you raise and lower the lid? If its not doing either spin or agitate could have a bad transmission, motor, belt, etc
