I have a Kenmore dishwasher model # 665.16512202, The handle or latch is slack and it will not close. I've looked at diagrams and all the parts seem in tact but when I place the latch/handle assembly back together it still will not close. I need help please.

The most common problem with the door not latching is the top rack not being completely in the back position. Check the rack to make sure that there is nothing jammed and not letting the rack completely close, also make sure that water tube lines up. On most models there is not real adjustments for the door latch.
Yes, that can happen. That latch is like the latch on your car door. You can trigger it, and then you can't close the door. But on your car, you can reset the latch by pulling the handle; your dishwasher doesn't have a handle, But you might be able to get a thin screwdriver in the latch and pry it back open. But I have found that once this happens, it tends to happen again. The best thing to do is replace the latch. If it's still under warranty, call Sears and arrange for them to send out a service man to fix it.
As I am sure you already have figured out, your latch mechanism and probably you latch switch are defective. You can look them up and order them from www.searspartdirect.com by entering your model number and then finding your parts on the diagrams.
To open this latch, the handle works as a lever to push inward when you push up on the handle. If your handle if broken, it has probably ceased to work as a lever (the pivot pins have likely broken). You want to push in on the handle to open the latch, ideally toward the bottom of the handle opening. Once you get the latch open, you'll likely want to order a replacement (here is one source : http://www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Door-Latch/W10130694/1266678 ). Remember to turn off the power to the dishwasher, and you'll need a star head driver to remove the screws from the inside of the door to access and replace the latch.
The plastic latch release inside the door handle is broken. Most likely one of the pins holding it in place has broken.
First go to your local dishwasher supplier and look at a similar brand (GE Profile in my case) and see how the mechanism works. Next, get a thin pair of siccors, pull the dishwasher handle down and slid the siccors into the opening above the handel and push the tab holding the door closed up so it will release.
Once the door is open, remove the inside of the door to get to the latch. Remove the plastic latch release and order a new one.

I had a dishwasher that did that a I had to have the little hook replaced -- Its plastic so it probally brook like mine. I am so sorry to bother you but could you please look inside the door of your dishwash and get me the model number please. Its to long of a story to tell you why - but I would appreciate it so-o-o-o much. Thank you Jeanette
