SOURCE: Pull cord broke on my lawn boy mower, new cord won't retract??

I don't know exactly what you have there, but starters in general work pretty much the same. What you have to do with any starter when you replace the rope is to first wind up the spring with the pulley. Turn the pulley in the direction it would be turning if you were pulling the rope. When it's wound tight, back off to align the rope hole in the cover and the pulley. Stick the rope from the outside through the cover and pulley and tie a knot. Then let the spring tension pull the rope into the starter. Hope that helps. Dwain

SOURCE: lawn mower pull cord

This works best with two people. Remove cover and pull cord will be inside cover. If your handle on pull cord is attatched to a metal ring up on the handle, you will need 8 foot of new pull cord.
With all the old cord removed, wind cord pulley 6 revolunations, now, have someone hold the pulley, while you string the new cord thru pulley and out the cord hole on cover. Be sure to put a knot on the end going thru pulley. Draw cord all the way thru and out of the cover. Attatch the handle and let it rewind. You will have extra cord, this will be used up going from engine up the handle. I hope this helps

Pull cord won't retract

Hi Susan. It sounds like the spring has either snapped or become un attached. It's going to be a two person job to re do it. It may be worth while going to a scrap metal merchant and getting the recoil starter of an old mower.

Pull cord is stuck

Take off your cover to the pull cord, the cord probably just got wrapped around the pulley. If you run into trouble with taking off this cover go to smalleng.com they will walk you through the process off pull cord removal and installation. Good Luck PAL.

The pull cord on my poulan pro weedeater will not

You have a broken recoil spring. Dis-assemble (pull-off) the recoil housing and check for proper dog alingnment, broken spring, or something jammed between recoil sprocket and engine block.

I need a manual for a Weedeater lawn mower model 733848. I cannot find a source for this manual.

It seems that model number is shared by Poulan too and this is a link to a page purporting to have the manual (.pdf format) for downloading:
