It's acting like there is no cartridge in there. No color ink is on the alignment page
The printhead on the cartridge could be damaged thus the reason why the printer is giving our an error message. That said, the cartridge would need to be replaced.
Make sure to purchase genuine Lexmark cartridges. Refilled/remanufactured cartridges could damage your printer.
Its pretty simple. You can spend a lot of money on Lexmark Ink Cartridge or do the following:
1- Find a good deal on cheap replacement cartridges, like on Amazon.
2- Install the new cartridges once they arrive.
3- Print your important documents (if you can trick your Lexmark into using the off brand by clicking "I dont care if they are Lexmark, print anyway" ) if not, continue these steps:
4- Hook up your old HP printer after unhooking the Lexmark
5- Un-carefully pull the lid and access doors off, while attempting to rip them in half like the incredible hulk.
6- From the top of a building, ignite the printer using a small cup of gas to help begin the burn.
7- After about 3-4 mins on fire, use a sledgehammer to drive the fireball off the roof. You will gain full satisfaction if it lands in or on the car of a Lexmark executive.
8- Then simply press print (like you did before upgrading to Lexmark )
Hope this helps ... you feel better at least.

Ink cartriges have chips in them, if the printer does so many prints without getting the "I've had a new Original Cart fitted" it will stop untill, you give it one, regardless if there ink or not
Im afraid it doesn't care that you only need to use the colour cartridge, it is designed to cost you money and make money for lexmark not refillers.
Welcome to our modern world, manufactures make the ink hard to recycle by incorperation of expensive chips that makes refillers, unable to make a easy dollar, because if that want to make cartridges that work they must also fit the expensive chip.
All empty cartridges have a little ink left in them because getting air in ink lines is not a thing we want.
SOURCE: I refilled the ink cartridge
If white lines are present in the alignment page, then try this, warm some bottled water on the stove or microwave untill it almost boils. Then pour the water about a quarter of an inch deep in a plastic clean cup, place the printhead section of the cartridge, (the part that the ink sprays out of), in the water and let set for about 5 to 10 minutes. When you remove the cartridge from the water, dab it several times on a lint free paper towel or an old cotton cloth, DO NOT RUB or touch the printhead with your fingers or anything else. Then using a cotton swab dampened in rubbing alcohol, clean the shiney electrical contacts on the cartridge and where they touch in the machine. If you still cant align, then probably its time to replace the cartridge. You can only refill so many times before the printing elements burn out with usage.
Hope this helps,

SOURCE: Printer is not working new ink
Cartridge World stores have a 100% satisfaction guarantee; they will repair, replace, or refund any cartridge you find unsatisfactory. You need to go to the store you purchased this cartridge from and request a new one.
SOURCE: Does Walmart refill printer ink cartridges?
Your printer uses cartridges number 41 and 42, which can't be refilled. They can physically be refilled, but they won't work afterwords. If you wish to refill your cartridges, you should buy cartridges 41A and 42A or 43XL and 44XL- those cartridges work just fine after a refill. So, maybe Walmart does refill the initial cartridges (41 & 42), but it would be a waste of your money.
Hope that helps!
Just make sure you are using a genuine Lexmark cartridge and not some remanufactured, refilled or clone cartridges. Please follow the steps below to identify and fix cartridge

2) Remove the black power brick/block from the rear of the machine. (It may be a little tough to pull it out the first time you remove it.

8) Wipe the bottom of the cartridge with a damp, lint free cloth in order to verify that the ink is flowing and looks correct.
9) Make sure there is no water remaining on the cartridge.
10) Re-insert the cartridge into the carrier and make sure that it is bottomed and inserted all the way to the rear of the carrier slot.
11) Re-insert the power brick/block.
