Neptune washer The outer tub on my Neptune washer is cracked and I nned to know the material it is made of so I can have it welded.

  • lugarug Apr 05, 2009

I have the same issue. Small crack in the outer tub. What kind of plastic is the Neptune outer tub made of? Epoxy, JB weld or fiberglass may work if the crack is drilled at the ends to stop its progression, but it is important to know the exact material to know what product will stick.

Could be a Tub Seal leak my 1st choice. Could also be a leak caused by a cracked outer tub, issues from the hoses from the drain line connections to the drain pump, drain pump and or drain line.

Leaking at bottom of washer after it spins out not alot of water but a pain in the ****, how do you get in to the back of the washer?

The FAV6800A and FAV9800A only have access thru the front panel and washer top once released fromt the base......no rear or side access. See Pick of Outer Tub removed for Tub Seal and bearing replacement.

Google ""16022808.pdf"" to find the Service Manual.

Page 33 will show ou how to release the top cover and page 41 for front cover removal.

If you have wash water leaking down on the Clutch Pulley I feel you have a Tub Seal leak. The issues could be related to the drain hose/drain pump or cracked outer tub.

I don't troubleshoot on this forum to difficult to carry on thread. Google ""Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW"" or ""FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement"". Two DIY forums I frequent that I feel are true DIY forums.

I've got a crack in the inside tub. The fiberglass part. How do I remove the one side to repair this. And I take it 'J B' Weld will do the trick? LOL Thank you, Mary

Mary,

Google this ""16022808.pdf""

That will you take you to the FAV6800A/FAV9800A Service Manual. The SM will take you thru front panel removal. the front panel and the washer top raised are the only access points for the FAV6800A and FAV9800A Maytag Neptune TL's.

JB weld should do it. I would rough up the crack area and place pice of fiber glass mat and resin.

My washing machine makes a grinding noise when it is spinning. It drains alright and seems to work ok, but I`m afraid the grinding noise could lead to bigger problems.

Stone,

All owners are heading toward this issue. I feel your FAV6800A or FAV9800A is at the end of service lifew for the Tub Seal

If you open the washer lid and spin the Washer CCW and hear the noise (Outer Tub Bearing noise) then it's time to role up your sleeves.

Do you have basic DIY mech. skills and do you want to save your $1K machine?

If so Google Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW

In the Sticky: Neptune TL Washer FAV6800AWW 5 post down you will find a link to the Service Manual. You absolutely need the Service Manual to DIY issues with the machine. It's not the best SM but will get you started. I also have repair post in that sticky to help with the most common issues that I have helped owners with. I'm an owner of a FAV6800A top load machine.

Google this FAV6800A/FAV9800A Outer Tub bearing replacement to see what is involved in doing an Outer Tub Rebuild.

Good Luck

I have a neptune that continues to beep and do its own thing. do you thinks it's the computer board?

Yes it could be, you could try to reseat the ribbon cable on the Control Board. I have three Control Boards two of which are mounted on Consoles and all work in my test FAV6800A. The machine is hobby and I help owners that wish to DIY the repair on the machine to save big $$$.

If you do decide to DIY this issue and do not have access to a loan'er Control Board I would look at a supplier that will offer a return policy if the Control Board is not the issue. You will pay top dollar for that service.

All my spare electronic parts come from E-*** from other owners parting out the machine. You can make this machine last forever if you buy cheap used parts.

Only thing I would buy new is the Outer Tub Bearings and Spinner Support bearings and a new Clutch Pulley if a Leaky Tub seal takes out the One-Way Roller clutch bearings.

See these post for my credentials as FAV6800A owner that knows the machine from Control Board to Outer Tub rebuild.

About 1 minute into the cycle water starts running out from underneath of the washer. Checked all the hoses that are connected to the back and none are leaking

this is either the front seal that goes from the outer tub to the front of the washer or a hole in the outer tub itself or one of the hoses underneath the seal and the hoses are easiest to check you can take a cup of water and slowly pour it into the front seal. take care not to overfill it to where it spills into the tub and see if you are getting water on your floor from that. the hoses tip the washer up onto its back and look at them from the bottom for any cracking etc. the tub itself can only rust out on some of the neptune models or on others is plastic and can get punctured. just have to look for damage with a light and a mirror.

Maytag Neptune Front Load Washer

No, I'll tell you before forking out $ $ for some bad news. The noise is your bearing. You have to replace the outer tub .Its not going to be repaired any other way.The idiots who designed this washer made this a non servicable bearing. The labor is high not to mention the outer tub is also.REPLACE THE OUTER TUB.

Neptune washer

Why?Do you understand that the bearings are locked into the outer tub and you have to replace that, the outer tub.Very expensive repair that will most likely be almost half the price you had paid for the machine new.My advise is DONT FIX this if you have a bearing problem ,because I honestly believe in letting the customer know the truth.Sorry, but a 15 year old re- conditioned Maytag will out last any Neptune ever made.
