My pilot light goes out quite frequently can the flamepilot lightBE adjusted, if so how?

Some heater models can be adjusted. If you follow the pilot tubing from the pilot down to the control (gas valve), some have a small screw next to it. Remove the cap and adjust the screw counter-clockwise to decrease the pilot flame or clockwise to increase it.

Pilot light on my rheem water heater goes out frequently, model # 22v50f1,about 4-5 years old

There are many reasons why pilot light can go out, from bad thermocouple to low air supply to dirty combustion parts, clogged orifice, low gas pressure, etc.

Pilot light frequently just goes out

If yours has an ODS pilot light, dust can get into the safety portion causing it to shut down thinking the oxygen is too low in the room. I use rust buster to flush the pilot without harming it. It has a long spout on it and that makes it easy to reach inside the heater.

My pilot won't stay on i've tried several times.

Your problem is easy and frequent. The pilot light should heat up the thermouple which in return by the heat will keep the valve on for pilot light first and the burner light.

So either the pilot light is not reaching the thermocouple - this only if someone moves the pilot light

Or the thermocouple became weak and can hold the gas valve open - so replace the thermocouple with new one.

There is a very small possibility that the gas valve is faulty but you should replace the thermocouple in any case which is very cheap first and is the most possible cause.

Pilot light on water heater goes out frequently and thermocouple has been replaced 3-4 times. Richmond 30 gal, gas, model 5V30T. Thank you

Check the following:

See if your heater has a pilot gas adjustment valve. It should be on the gas control valve somewhere. Not all heaters have these. It will be a screw on the valve that can be turned.

Make sure the thermocouple sensing bulb is squarely in the pilot flame and also check that the fitting where the other end of the thermocouple connects to the main gas valve is tight.

Check the pilot gas orifice (where the pilot gas comes out) for carbon build up - you may need to remove the pilot gas line and thermocouple assembly to get to this. This problem is pretty common.

Check the gas pressure to the heater. Run the hot water in the dwelling until the hot water heater starts. Check the flame on the main burner and see what color it is - it should be blue with possibly some yellow-tipped flames. If not, there could be a problem with the gas pressure at the heater or venting. If the heater has a gas pressure regulator, it may be out of adjustment or defective.

Finally, and this isn't very common, the pilot light can be extinguished if there is a draft problem, usually associated with an issue with the flue pipe venting system for the heater or another nearby gas consuming appliance.

Pilot goes out ocassionaly.

The pilot going out could just be caused by location. If it is near a door or other source of heavy breeze it will blow out. if it can not be relit or happens very frequently check the gas supply to the pilot tube, Pilot oraface and thermocouple
