Question about HP Expresscard TV Tuner For Windows Vista (RM436AA#ABA)

Open Question

Quickplay on HP crashes

Every time I try to play my quickplay through my tuner express card - the program (quickplay) crashes. I'm running on Windows Vista. I have a new laptop - HP Pavilion Entertainment PC. My tuner express card is a HP external card - RM436AA. Quickplay seems to crash specifically when I'm searching for digital channels through my antenna.

Please help - Thanks! JoAnn

I'm having the same problem. I updated my quickplay from 3.2 to 3.7, and now when i scan for digital channels, the program stops working after 55% done. I've called HP and they told me that because my warranty has expired, I have to pay for tech support on this issue. My HP notebook is a DV9500 and was custom built for me from HP a little over a year ago. I got the quickplay 3.7 from an update that was suggested to me when I opened my quickplay. 3.2 was working fine, but, i wanted the newer one.

ditto for me! Now I'm sad I uninstalled the previous version of quick play...at least that one worked!

    Same here!
I have a dv9650us and an external HP expresscard tv tuner. I've had this thing on the road from Seattle to San Diego many times inn the past year and it worked just fine - great actually.

As of a week or so ago, I can no longer scan for channels, it gets to 41% and just sticks there - and then Quickplay freezes - I have to reboot to close Quickplay. So now it's just a useless piece of junk.

I think the problem is with windows Vista. I've been having the same problem also with other things on my laptop also on my disk top. Vista at times won't save the setings. I may just install Windows XP and see what happens.

first off lets try pluggin in something else into that port to see if it will recognize that. if it does then we know it is not the laptop that is in question but the software or device mangaer properites.

SOURCE: Hi, Ihave 2 questions: Is the

Hello,

the card will work in your hp if you have the expresscard slot on either side of the laptop, take a peak in the slot - remove the plastic holded from it, look at the shape of this card, if the slot matches then yes.

if you don't like that answer and would like a more solid one, post me the exact model number of your DV2500 SERIES laptop. model example: DV2599EHGFDA

this tv tuner uses NTSC for analog tv and ATSC+ for digital TV.

NTSC is used mainly in the united states and australia uses PAL format.

so most likely this card would not work in australia, unless you know there is digital ATSC+ format available.

HP Express Card Digital / Analog not working

First thing I tried to do was to install the drivers that came into the CD didn't work, just using mydvd9 the import/aqcuire option I could have some noise signal, but couldn't find a way to select channels and hanged after a while. This is too trickier, I thought, it should be a way to used quickplay and other applications.

I couldn't get anything from HP site so investigating I found the following.

1) Had to upgrade quickplay to latest version (is pretty cool btw)
2) The card internally is a Hauppage and found that is actually the HVR1500 http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_hvr1500.html.
Drivers + application can be downloaded at http://www.hauppauge.com/site/support/support_hvr1250.html

3) After upgrading quickplay and installing drivers and application from hauppage, Quick play had additionally an hp digital tv tuner entry, but here in canada there is no digital signal transmitted through antenna.
4) I have reinstalled manually the drivers that came in the CD, but from the c:\swsetup\HP Digital tv tuner folder
5) After this I had at quickplay a second source "Hp Analog Tv tuner" which allowed me to caputure the regular air signal and wintv worked as well

I'm sure that I did some redundant steps, but it worked and now can I have everything working (quickplay, wintv, digital, analog signals)

Hope this helps and btw I haev uploaded the manuals for thouse who can't get it, since HP doesn't have them in the website.

Cheers

Vista Basic does not recognize HP Express Card

Hi

could you have a look into the device manager - right click on your "my computer" or "computer" which is either on your desktop or in the start menu.

Select Manage from the list.

On the left side you will see Device manager on the list click there.

Now on the right, do you see any Yellow ? marks.

Can you find the card from the list?

If you unplug the card does something dissapear from the list or if you reinsert the card does something come up?

Play & Record VHS through TV Tuner Card

You need to connect the ariel to the vcr, then the vcr to the card, using a male/female fly lead. Then I suggest putting an origional film tape into the vcr, press play on the vcr and then scan in the channels on the card. It should pick up the vcr's output of the film that is playing.

A TV card probably wont be able to tune it in...or decode(decrypt) it for that matter. Is a CableTv set top box plugged in? (the box your cable company supplies you with) -damian
