The drier will not operate without the door being secured for safety reasons. There is power running to the switch and once the door is shut and the lever,or the "spring" is pushed in it allows the power to turn on.Almost like a light switch. The door switch will have to be replaced. This is a very easy repair. The switch can be found at your nearest appliance store or online. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/whirlpool-dryer-door-switch-3406107-ap3132865.html

check to see if the belt broke, there's a switch on the belt pulley on some models,if the belt snaps from to large a load the pulley doesn't have any tension on it and the switch opens so the dryer won't run.when you put the belt back on the pulley sets the switch so power will go tough it again and the dryer will run, also check the door switch,if someone shut the door to hard and broke the switch the dryer won't run.these are the easy things to check without needing a meter.hopeit helps,if you're in mass. and need a tech you can call peter de's appliance 781-438-9442 very good techs
There has to be some sort of spring on the door latch assembly that keeps the door closed. If broken or no tension the door will not latch and spring open. And when the door springs open, a safety switch shuts the machine off.
check the door switch,i don't work on lg but on any other dryer if the wsitch is broke the dryer won't start and if the light is on the switch shuts off the light and dryer will start.if you send the model number i can look up the switch for you.open the door and look around the frame where the door closes into, there should be a push button switch or a little paddle that the door hits, when you push in on the switch it should make a clicking sound or i've seen the paddle broke off.hope this helps or if you removed any wires to the door switch you might of wired it wrong
the door switch is broke.when you push on the paddle of the door switch the lite should go out,if you don't see the paddle it most likely broke off,you need to send the full model number next time,it will start with 110.or similar.the door switch is a safety so the machine won't run until the door is closed,if the switch is broke no power will go to start the dryer
is the door switch broke?first what kind of dryer and send the model number, when the door closes it hits the door switch and shuts the light off,the dryer will not run if the switch is broke,it's like trying to start the dryer with the door open if the switch broke.
Pop the top ... probably 2 screws and spring clips. Remove the front, be careful of the wires attached to the door switch. You will see how it works when you tip the front back toward yourself.
The back sits on two wheels and the front rides on a felt "bearing" around the door.
take the top loose on the dryer to acces the door switch. If it is the old style it should have a metal suround over the black switch. If the metal arm piece has broke, Ttake it off and tape the white button down to make it run.
IF YOU MEAN THAT THE DRYER STARTS BACK UP WHEN YOU CLOSE THE DOOR, THE PUSH TO START SWITCH IS SHORTED. CHECK TO SEE IF THE PUSH TO START BUTTON IS STUCK PRESSED IN AND NOT SPRINGING BACK OUT.
IF IT IS STUCK, TRY WD-40 TO LOOSTEN IT. OTHERWISE, REPLACE THE SWITCH.
IF THE DRYER KEEPS RUNNING WHEN YOU "OPEN" THE DOOR, THE DOOR SWITCH IS SHORTED. REPLACE THE DOOR SWITCH.
