    BIOS?

  • marcemiri Oct 29, 2012

Thank you all, but it seems like this mobo would have issues w/ usb3.0 cards coming on pci-e x1 slot. BIOS does not allow to make any change to pci-e x1 slot and drivers for the card have been installed properly. The fact is that windows (or mobo at this point I would assume is the same) not even senses the card installed. When I put the card into the slot It seems to be powered (a green ked goes on)

sorry, I kept the message hung!!! I was saying, the card seems to be on (as a green led lits) but windows does not detect it...

Hello the home page is here:

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/AMD_AM2/M2V/#specifications

Your mainboard does not support pci-e cards in the white socket.
They are TOTALLY INCOMPATIBLE with each other.

The PCI Express x1 is for a graphic card.

Usb 3,0 cards does exsist as pcix and this is what you are looking for.

If you want to know what pcix is:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PCI-X

Hope this will help you

Please post questions in detail to help us to serve you better. The answer which I'll be providing you is based on assumption on the little data you have provided. I think you haven't loaded the driver for the said card and hence, your PC is unable to detect the card. The drivers are usually supplied with the card on a disc,Just run the disc and if should solve your problem.

Is the hp a1330n usb 3.0 compatible? Mine doesn't even have the "pci-e" mini slots for plugging in a usb 3.0 card. Is my only option is replacing the motherboard with one that has pci-e slots?

- You can use PCIe x16 slot (if using onboard graphics adapter) and PCIe/USB 3.0 card (data transfer rates up to 5 Gbit/s, i.e. 10x faster than USB 2.0).
- Or use PCI/USB 3.0 card (for legacy PCI slots to support the USB 3.0 standard), which allows data transfer rates up to 1.3 Gbit/s (3x faster than USB 2.0).

Fitting a Gforce video card in a veriton 5700GX

Your restrictions are based on available slot size and version. So get one that fits PCI-e x16.

Could not locate PCI version so check your manual, because the slots are backward compatible. Meaning you can connect a Ver 1 card into a Ver 3 slot, but not the other way around.

Drivers
Your laptop should have been supplied with a Utility CD which contains a copy of the user manual and all the drivers. There is also a copy of the drivers on the laptop itself, you can find it by browsing to the c:\applications\drivers folder. Finally you can download some of them from The Tech Guys website.
The Wireless LAN card uses a Ralink RT72 chipset so if you're struggling to find drivers then the "USB(RT257x/RT2671)" ones on the Ralink site should work - http://www.ralinktech.com/support.php.

Memory Upgrades This laptop has two memory slots. One slot is accessed by removing the cover underneath the laptop (see the "Bottom of Laptop" section below)

Motherboard diagram

A Computer Motherboard Diagram motherboard-diagram-01.jpg Once you know what you are looking at, you can recognize the components on any motherboard layout. A computer motherboard diagram is very useful for when you need to replace motherboard, do motherboard upgrades, troubleshoot motherboard, or build your own computer.
  1. PCI Slot - This board has 2 PCI slots. These can be used for components such as Ethernet cards, sound cards, and modems.
  2. PCI-E 16x Slot - There are 2 of them on this motherboard diagram, both are blue. These are used for your graphics card. With two of them onboard, you can run 2 graphics cards in SLI. You would only need this if you are a gamer, or working with high end video / graphics editing. These are the 16x speed versions, which are currently the fastest.
  3. PCI-E 1x Slot - Single slot - In the PCIe 1.x generation, each lane (1x) carries 250 MB/s compared to 133 MB/s for the PCI slots. These can be used for expansion cards such as Sound Cards, or Ethernet Cards.
  4. Northbridge - This is the Northbridge for this motherboard. This allows communication between the CPU and the system memory and PCI-E slots.
  5. ATX 12V 2X and 4 Pin Power Connection Power Connection - This is one of two power connections that supply power to the motherboard. This connection will come from your Power Supply.
  6. CPU-Fan Connection - This is where your CPU fan will connect. Using this connection over one from your power supply will allow the motherboard to control the speed of your fan, based on the CPU temperature.
  7. Socket - This is where your CPU will plug in. The orange bracket that is surrounding it is used for high end heat sinks. It helps to support the weight of the heat sink.
  8. Memory Slots - These are the slots for your RAM. Most boards will have 4 slots, but some will only have 2. The color coding you see on the motherboard diagram is used to match up RAM for Dual-Channel. Using them this way will give your memory a speed boost.
  9. ATX Power Connector - This is the second of two power connections. This is the main power connection for the motherboard, and comes from the Power Supply.
  10. IDE Connection - The IDE (Integrated Drive Electronics) is the connection for your hard drive or CD / DVD drive. Most drives today come with SATA connections, so you may not use this.
  11. Southbridge - This is the controller for components such as the PCI slots, onboard audio, and USB connections.
  12. SATA Connections - These are 4 of the 6 SATA connections on the motherboard. These will be used for hard drives, and CD / DVD drives.
  13. Front Panel Connections - this is where you will hook in the connections from your case. These are mostly the different lights on your case, such as power on, hard drive activity etc.
  14. FDD Connection - The FDD is the Floppy Disk controller. If you have a floppy disk drive in your computer, this is where you will hook it up.
  15. External USB Connections - This is where you will plug in external USB connections for your case or USB bracket.
  16. CMOS battery - This is the motherboard's battery. This is used to allow the CMOS to keep its settings.

My motherboard has fried: Albatron KM18G Pro 2003. It no longer seems to be available. For the computer to be exactly as it was before disaster struck, do I need exactly the same motherboard?

Well you do not need exactly the same motherboard. You need a motherboard that has the exact CPU socket, DDR slots and AGP or PCI slot.
Here are the specifications for the motherboard: Processor
- AMD Athlon/Athlon XP/AthlonXP Barton/Duron Processor
- FSB 200/266/333MHz
Chipset
- North Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 IGP
- South Bridge: NVIDIA nForce2 MCP
- I / O Chip : Winbond W83627HF
Memory
- 3 DDR Sockets:
-
DDR200 to 400 non-ECC DDR SDRAM up to 3GB (Single Channel) or up to 2GB (Dual Channel)
Expansion Slots
- 1 x AGP 8X/4X slot (1.5V Only)
- 3 x PCI slots (PCI 2.2 compliant)
IDE Connectors 2 ATA133 channels (up to 4 ATA 133 IDE Devices)
Onboard I/O Connectors
- 1x Floppy Connector
- 2x USB 2.0/1.1 header (4 ports USB cable optional)
- 1x CD_IN header
- 1x COM Port header
- 1x S/PDIF in/out header (S/PDIF in/out cable optional)
- 1x CPU fan header with fan rotation detection function
- 1x System fan headers with fan rotation detection function
- 2x 5 pin system panel header (Intel spec)
- 1x 3 pin Power LED header
- 1x 4 pin Speaker header
- 1x Front audio header (Intel spec)
- 1x Case Open detection header
- 1x Wake on LAN
- 1x 4 pin TV-Out header

So you have to buy a motherboard that has Socket A, that support DDR I memories and has an AGP slot (for the video card).

If you need further assistance, just leave a comment. Thank you for using FixYa.
