Remove hot pipe connection, and flush out through drain valve.
Or remove TP valve and flush out through drain valve.
Connect small circulating pump to 5 gallon bucket with 2 gallons white vinegar like they do with tankless water heater, as shown following Bosch manual. And let run for 45 minutes.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Bosch_Descaling-heat-exchanger.pdf
White vinegar is safe for humans.

If odor is the problem, use H2O2 hydrogen peroxide, and not bleach. Hydrogen peroxide is safe for humans and easy to flush out of water heater and pipes. While it can take weeks to get rid of bleach, which is caustic and toxic.

SOURCE: Atwood water heater - pilot light and flame malfunction

Michael,
The thermocouple sensor may not be in the best position to sense that the pilot is lit.
Adjust the thermocouple mount or simply bend the thermocouple "wire" so that the pilot flame is touching the tip.

SOURCE: I have Atwood GC6aa-9e. Water isn't getting hot.

If you've checked at pressure relief valve ( careful, not to burn yourself just in case it is hot) by pulling lever and catching some water that comes out in a cup or whatever. If it feels hot out of there, check that by-pass isn't faulty. Not uncommon for valves to seize, and only partially open, or close, and end up mixing hot with cold.

Need to add electric heating element and thermastate to g6a-6e gas water heater

I don't know how you can drill into aluminum tank and install element.
That seems a good way to ruin the heater.
Why not just buy small 'under counter' 1500 watt electric water heater at local box store and install in-line before the water reaches atwood gas heater.

Otherwise I do not have a solution.
Don't blow yourself up by messing with gas appliance.

Will this solve my problem of the pilot going out after the water is hot?

Your thermo coupler may be going out. If the thermo couple does not sense heat it will shut the gas off. This is a safety feature. Once you replace that you should be ok.

Hi i have a atwood 22.7 litre water heater model mpd93754 . IT ignites heats water, but wont shut off when it gets too hot. could you please help solve this problem . many thanks rod baker.

Gas control valve thermostat might be bad.
The copper cylinder located on back of gas control that sticks into water is the thermostat.
If thermostat is not reading correct temperature, then gas might stay lit.
Usually the gas control will sense overheated water and trip the ECO so no gas will flow to burner.
In any case, the gas control valve is replaced.

Have no hot water flowing at all from my Atwood hot water heater. cold ok tank full?

Hi and welcome to Fixya.

Here are 2 manuals that should help you in troubleshooting your RV hot water problem.

Multiple times there is a ref. to resetting the reset switch for 30 seconds on the unit (cover removal required)

For the ignition:

http://www.atwoodmobile.com/manuals/waterheaters/MPD%2093757%20PS%2011.19.07.pdf

For the water heater:

http://www.atwoodmobile.com/manuals/waterheaters/MPD%2093050%20PS%204.9.09.pdf

The manuals as written are full of warnings mixed in with meaningful text. (Not user friendly)
