Video camera zooms in when turned on, cant zoom out.

My GR-DX77 will zoom spontaneously: you can go wide using the "W" button on the back of the camera, but as soon as you release the "W," it zooms back in again, all the way to 40x. It may be that the "power zoom" on top of the camera is faulty: if I fiddle with it, the problem goes away temporarily, but I think the "power zoom" button is so touchy, that just handling the camera jiggles it back into the position that forces the spontaneous zooming. HOWEVER, note that 1) I just got this camera, and went through the instructions fairly quickly, and 2) most recently, it will spontaneously zoom, but only to 12x, suggesting that it IS a setting that can be changed.
