Make sure nothing is plugged in first.
Should not matter which goes first, they should go in together. The spring is to let the fuse have a good contact.

Took out cable connection charger, that attaches to Garmin NUVI, from cigarette lighter in car and the inside springs broke

that's how you can change the fuse.the piece at bottom of picture goes into the threaded piece 1st.

The piece at bottom of picture goes into the threaded piece. The spring goes into the body of the charger then the fuse and then the
threaded piece with the small piece still inside of it is screwed on.
Should work.

To replace the fuse in my garmin 650 car charger, when reassembling which goes in first the spring or the fuse ? The cap came off and the spring and fuse fell out and I am not sure how to reassemble it.

As long as it works correctly when assembled it doesn't matter, the spring is part of the circuit and as long a the fuse and spring have contact with the tip and internal connection the circuit will function properly without any risk of damage to the device. Most times the spring goes in first though.

My GTM 20 tip got unscrewed and the parts fell out. I put the parts together and then found out that both the car socket fuse and the GTM 20 fuse were busted. I replaced both fuses. The car socket works...

The GTM 20 can be repaired. It's likely that either you're not using the correct fuse or there's a short circuit. The short circuit would be caused by the metal tip, spring or fuse touching the outer part of the plug. There's a repair kit available from

Power cord light does not come on and garmin does not charge. Unit was ust bought in May 2009.

make sure the socket is working that your plugging the charger in to, like a cell phone. if you verified that the car socket is good, there should be a fuse in the tip of the car charger where it goes in the car socket....just unscrew the tip off...if there is no tip on it, its probably fell off and might be in the car socket.

if the car socket does not power anything else up, locate the fuse in the fuse panel of the car an check the fuse.

Car charger for nuvi 205w

The Garmin Chargers use a 1A 5x20mm glass fuse in the tip.

The DC output of the charger is +5VDC @ 1A. The 1A rating is the max rating and your Nuvi should draw less than 1A under normal conditions.

You would not want to put a 3A in there because if there is a short in the Nuvi, you want the fuse to blow quickly. A 3A fuse is too high in value.

The part that goes into the cigarette lighter broke on my Garin Nuvi. When I pulled it out, the small metal pieces, and a little glass tube fell out. How do I put it back together?

The glass tube is the fuse. There should be a spring and threaded metal barrel with a metal tip that slides through it. Look for these (4) parts.

The spring goes in first, followed by the glass fuse and then the metal tip should pass through the metal barrel. Screw the metal barrel with the tip on the end over the fuse. When you press on the tip, it should push in a little and spring back out. If you lost the pieces, you'll need to purchase another charger.
