could be a clogged fuel filter, bad throttle position sensor, bad throttle cable, clogged fuel line, bad fuel pump, bad map/maf sensor. have your throttle position sensor and cable checked.

What is a throttle positioning sensor

A throttle position sensor (TPS) is a sensor used to monitor the position of the throttle. If it goes bad (and they do sometimes) it will cause your check engine light to show up. I have never had anything bad happen to any of my cars when the TPS goes bad. Just need to get the part and replace it.

I do not know where the throtlle position sensor has to go

Year, make, model, engine size would be helpful. The TPS would be located on the throttle body on the opposite side ot the throttle cable

The throttle position sensor is going to be located on the throttle body. This sensor detects the position of the butterfly to the PCM to regulate fuel and air mix along with information from other sensors.

Easiest thing to do would be to follow the air intake tube to the throttle body.( big round rubber or plastic that goes from front area of car to engine and is usually held on with a clamp where it attaches to intake of throttle body) Right in that area, you will see your throttle linkage/cable etc, and where it pivots when gas pedal is pushed. Look opposite side of that housing and you should see the throttle position sensor.

The throttle position sensor responds to the accelerator pedal movement. This sensor is a kind of potentiometer which transforms the throttle position into output voltage and emits the voltage signal to the ECM. In addition, the sensor detects the opening and closing speed of the throttle valve and feeds the voltage signal to the ECM. Idle position of the throttle valve is determined by the ECM receiving the signal from the throttle position sensor. This one controls engine operation such as fuel cut, etc. The throttle position sensor unit has a built-in “wide open and closed throttle position switch,” which is not used to control the engine. For the G35, the throttle position sensor is part of the throttle control actuator.

Diagram throttle position sensor for jeep grand cherokee limited 2004

Take the Intake Air Hose off. This goes from the Air Filter to the Throttle Housing. When you see the Throttle Gate draw a horizontal line across the center - this should be the the Throttle Gate Pivot Arm. The Throttle Position Sensor is lined up with this Pivot Arm. It should be the only sensor lined-up with this. There should be a Idle Air Sensor that is located above this, but this is not lined-up to the Throttle Gate Pivot Arm.

I researched this & you need to replace the throttle body gasket & get the throttle body re-calibrated. Seems to be dealer only. Also, the t.p.s. (throttle position sensor) could be bad.
