SOURCE: Kenmore 23.1 cf Chest Freezer not cooling below 14F

Make sure everything is working, I.E. compressor, fans. Now I need to know if the freezer shuts off at 14 degrees, or does it continue to run without making temp. If it shuts off, then the first place to look is the thermostat. It may be out of calibration. If it continues to run, then the solution may be as simple as cleaning the condenser coil. or the defrost has malfunctioned somehow. Defrost probleams will cause excess ice on the inside coil. You may need to remove the panels to see how much ice is on it. It sounds like the compressor is good, as it is pretty cold. Just not cold enough. A deep freeze should be at least 0.

It might be freezing normally but that doesn't mean that compressor's motor isn't overheating due to lack of freon or mechanical problems on motor itself. Better not risk a fire and let someone experienced check the compressor's motor. Overheating is never a good sign.

I have a kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702. I had it unpluged for 5 months. When I plugede it back in the power light flickers. Tryed other outlet. Other then that it seems to be working

We purchased this same Kenmore chest freezer model 19502/19702 in 2010. In less than 2 years the compressor quit. If you do a search on this model you will see dozens of complaints. Don't waste your time or money on this freezer.

Start up current draw

Lock motor Amps ( LMA ) is the current draw when the compressor starts. This draw of current is less then 1sec.The amp amount shoud be on the compressor Name Plate. This amp draw is also the amps used when the compressor goes bad and locks up then the overload kicks out.

Frigidaire, chest freezer only 2 or 3 yrs old, was...

See if you have 120 volts at the compressor if you do do you hear any clicking sound at compressor if not replace compressor Start Relay/Overload if you hear clicking sound the compressor may be bad or Start Relay/Overload the only way to know is to replace the compressor Start Relay/Overload. If you do not have 120 volts at the compressor jump out the thermostat you should have 120 volts at the compressor now if not you may have a defrost timer Prob. if this is shelf defrost unit check timer turn knob to see if it starts.

Red light blinking with audible alarm. Compressor

That is the compressor starting relay trying to start the cooling cycle and the overload protector kicking off. You can try installing a new start device for about $50.00 but you are most likely looking at a compressor replacement which runs about $400.00

Sorry for the bad news

Kenmore Chest Freezer Model number 1987191852 has started to defrost own its own. Compressor starts and shuts down after appx 2 seconds. Has this unit reached the end? is it cost effective to repair?

Good day,
That short cycle you hear, is the compressor trying to start, and can't.
It is possible one of the start components has failed. Under a cover on the side of the compressor are either 3 or 2 components.
The start relay, the protective overload and on some models a start/run capacitor. These components can be removed by pulling them off of the pins of the compressor.
Most appliance parts houses will be glad to test them for you. Replace any that test bad.

If all test O.K. then it is an internal problem with the compressor itself, which would take the services of a trained tech and pretty pricey.

I have a freezer chest the compressor comes on but it never cools

. Cut everything off for a few minutes then turn it back on and listen for a click from the compressor relay as the compressor tries to start.
Is the compressor motor running. If no check starter/overload relay.

My fridge freezer defrosted n now wont wrk

what you are hearing is the overload kicking in and out. which means bad start relay /bad capacitor/low voltage/bad overload/bad compressor.you can buy a 3in1 to eliminate all but the compressor. and the voltage check them first.

Most likely a bad compressor. You could try a new relay on it first.
