Question about Maytag Neptune FAV6800AW Top Load Washer

Maytag Neptune Washer FAV6800: We bought it in 2004. It is beeping when I try to change a setting. Some settings will run no problem, but others will not work. Beeps 3 times when I press a setting it doesn't like. We are mechanically inclined, and just need a little direction. Thank you!

    Save exact problem, tub full of water, no way to start any cycle, no error code, just three beeps and no action.

    Tried the membrane pad test. Many cycle buttons just gave 3 quick beep/chirps, other buttons toggle just fine.

    What happens when you fail the membrane pad test?

    New membrane pad? About how much is the part?

    I have the same problem but in addition to this problem my washer will beep after the cycle has completed and will not stop. I have to unplug it when I am not using it. It seems as if it wants to restart the cycle automatically. I am so frustrated with this problem. Can anyone help?

    I would try the Membrane Pad Test to get a start point and see if your Membrane Pad is defective or connections to the control board are flaky. Good luck! SM has this test detailed also.

    Do you have the troubleshooting guide stored in the control panel? It was shipped with the machine, pull 120VAC washer power plug, remove the top three torx screws at he top back of the control panel and remove the trouble shooting guide. Reassemble and power up your machine. Follow the instructions for Membrane Pad Test. You will enter Service Mode to verify that the key pad function LED can be toggled, just press each key once except the Presoak as described below. If you don’t have the Troubleshooting guide that came with your FAV6800A I have pasted in the test from the SM;

    Enter / Exit Service Mode

    To enter Service Mode press the Enviro Plus and Spin

    Only keys for three seconds or until the control beeps.

    Membrane Pad Test

    While in Service Mode, pressing the Presoak key will

    start a membrane switch check that verifies switch

    operation. All the LEDs (except Presoak ) can be toggled

    or slewed by pressing the key associated with the LED or

    set of LEDs. Each time either set delay arrow is pressed

    the digits toggle between a blank and 8. All keys

    (including the OFF button) must be pressed within 5

    minutes for this test to pass. “PA” will be displayed for

    five (5) seconds once all keys have been pressed and the

    test is completed. Following 10 seconds of inactivity at

    any point, this test will exit without any display.

    Mine gave me a “PA”code (pass the test) a few minutes ago on this test, just wanted to try the test.

    Hello cowillia,

    If you feel qualified to troubleshoot your machine, I would remove and reseat the ribbon cable from the Membrane Pad to the Control Board. My first guess would be a possible corrosive continuity path formed at the Membrane Pad ribbon cable and control Board Socket, no parts purchase involved in that troubleshooting. Second guess would be a possible Control Board problem or a combo of both Control Board & Membrane Pad. I have seen the Membrane Pad and Control Board selling for around $190 each. This kind of troubleshooting requires some mechanical/electrical skill sets and could become costly to substitute parts. Do you know if there was any storm activity prior to your failure? Do you have surge protection at the washer outlet?

    If you go forward with a service call I would have the bring out at minimum those two parts. Membrane pad is the MEMBRANE SWITCH (LED CONSOL) consol for my series of machine. The repair service will need Model number & Serial number of your machine.

Maytag neptune washer is very loud when in the spin cycle

I would ask and see if they have a bearing and seal kit already or if they can make one up for you for the FAV6800 top loaders.

My Maytag FAV6800 washer hungs part way through a cycle the timer on the front display stops at about 23 on the quick wash cycle.

Sounds like a pressure switch/ chamber issue. Check the tube is clear to the drum. (Assuming front loader?)

Neptune fav6800 top load washer all symtoms indicate the motor controller

If this is confirmed then you have to replace the controller unit. But since none of the symtoms were mentioned and if the there is no action or output from the controller you must replace the unit.

Maytag neptune fav6800 will not stop running water and overfolws

The water level sensor hose may be blocked. This is a thick hose that taps down into a thin tube which connects to the water level sensor in the control space. Check the hose for blocks. Check the sensor is working by blowing into it and listening for clicking sound indicating switches inside are working. Test resistance across the sensor while blowing into it to make sure. But first check the hose, this most often causes this particular fault.

Get the Service Manual this will help you diagnose issues with this washer.  I found a Service repair manual on this site search for this; FAV6800 Manual.  Check the postings and you will find a URL to the manual.

From another member a step by step to dump water from machine in diag mode  ""One other thing I learned for those of you who don’t want to bail out the water in the tub. If you want to have the machine drain the excess water without bailing this should work. Turn the machine off and make sure the "locked door" light goes off. Then hold the "Spin" and "Enviro Plus" buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. "00" should then show up on the display. Then hit the "Delicate" button, then the “Pre-soak” button. This should activate the pump and get all the water out. Once the water is out hit the off button. You then may want to try the Spin cycle alone. These directions can be found on the Troubleshooting Manual found folded up behind the rear panel of the machine where the main electrical circuit board is located.""

Noise while spinning

The bearings are going out. Im having the same problem right now. The cost to fix is over $900. Needs a new outer tub and clutch assembly.
