100Mbps in not the solution, because the computer NICs are not being utilizing nearly to 10Mbs. You may have a 10/100 or even 1000 (1GB) Network Interface Card, but you will never get those speeds. Not on a desktop anyway.

Example: COX offers Internet Professional a max of 15Mbps download, and 3Mbps upload for $200 a month w/3yr plan. You would need 4 such connection totaling $800 dollars a month to reach 10Mbs, and this is one the cheapest plans out there. I'm don't know your service plan, but I assume the budget is a great concern.

T1 = 1.54Mps

Enough rambling, let's talk solutions. Get another hub to test out. Like a Netgear or Linksys. Get new cat 5 cables.

Then the server needs to inspected to see if the failure is there. Check the event viewer for warnings and errors. These can be very technical though. Is there high CPU usage? What about the NIC setting? These actually matter.

Finally what about the DATA provider and their equipment. Have them test out since they are the first point of entry.

If this is a hub no driver is required, connect your CAT5 cable to it and the other end to your Network interface card and it is done.

LAN Network, both PC's with static IP's and defaullt and DNS addresses are 192.1683.1.1 tried the other defaults. Both machines connected. when i ping each others IP's request timed out. please help

Hi,
Can not really understand what exactly you have done. Please try the following steps:
1. Assign static IP on pc 1 as 192.168.1.2 assign subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. 2. No need to assign default gateway and DNS. 3. Assign static IP on pc 2 as 192.168.1.3 assign subnet mask as 255.255.255.0. 4. No need to assign default gateway and DNS.
Open dos and try to ping. In case if the ping fails then disable all the firewall on both the pc's and try again.
If you are running windows vista then in network and sharing center make sure network discovery and file sharing is enabled.
Regards,
Rashish

No network connection for windows xp

Hello kenji, hi, it would really help if you could add more information about the no connection problem, anyway there are several reason why you have no connection;
  1. Bad Lan card, or built in lan port,
  2. Lan card device driver not properly installed, check your driver CD.
  3. loose lan cable. check using a lan cable tester device.
  4. bad router or router setup.
  5. bad dsl or modem setup.
  6. bad telephone connection. check also telephone cable.
  7. no internet service, call your ISP.
  8. if you are using a wireless lan card, check the device.
  9. bad Operating system installation.
  10. check your connectivity setup, is it enabled?
Go through each from one to ten, see which one is the fault.

Moderm speed

Your question is garbled but I'll try to explain some of it.

Your ethernet LAN jack on your computer is probably 100mbps and the ethernet LAN jack on the modem is also 100mbps, connect them together and it will tell you that it is connected at 100mbps because they are both working at the same speed.

As for the other connections, you are mixing usb and ethernet up so much that I can not tell from what you are connecting together.

Lan only showing 10mbps

What is the speed of your network switch or router? If your computer is hooked to a 10 MBPS switch, that is all the speed you will get. My only other suggestion would be to look in the motherboard BIOS and see if there is a setting that affects the onboard lan speed.
