The RECOVERY CD's are specifically for each and every computer and has the WINDOWS license number etc embedded in it and the hard drive and motherboard serial number as well. You can get it back to factory standard by using any original windows CD and using your Wiondows Key number on the sticker on your computer. Then you can afterwards download the hardware drivers, and all the software that originally came with the laptop, from the internet by going the the DELL.COM website and identifying your specific machine by typing in your computer's serial number. It would then (normally does) take you to a page wher you will find all the drivers and sofware needed.

Welcome to FixYa! How are you doing?
You did not specify the operating system you are using, whether Windows XP, Vista, or Windows 7.
1. If your operating system is Windows XP, press CTRL and F11 key simultaneously when you see the dell logo after turning on the Laptop and follow the screen instructions.
2. If your operating system is VISTA or Win 7, tap F8 key when you see the dell logo. It will take you to advanced boot menu options under which you will see Repair your Computer, Select that option and enter your password if it asked, then you will be seeing list of options like system restore, command promt, etc., In that the last option says Dell PC restore or some thing like that. Select that option and follow the screens .. Thats it.
3. If in both case, the Factory default didn't work, then your laptop's factory image defaults partition have vanished (i.e. Corrupted / Deleted). So you have to do Operating System re installation with the Operating System CD / DVD shipped along with laptop.
Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa.
