Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)

That wouldnt damage the laser to my knowledge.
Turn it on ,open the drawer , unplug the AC get a can of "dust-off" or compressed CO2 and dust out the interior thru the drawer opening.
It MIGHT help

I think there may be a problem with the system (defective parts) - I, too, am having this issue. I am going to contact the BBB - maybe if enough of us complain we will get a recall. To file a complaint:

Same problamo........CD player mechanism needs replacement in my case!.....It could be a flexwire (a belt like flat cable inside your CD player connects motherboard and CD lense), check that out!

Check the small signal transistors BC338 and BC328, they're under the transport mech and will be near where the spindle motor plugs in to the PCB.
One of the transistors acts as a brake which momentarily puts the motor in reverse polarity to stop the CD rotating during 'stop' or 'open tray' modes. The reason the CD is spinning backwards is that the transistor which drives the spindle motor forwards during playback is faulty and is triggering the braking transistor hence spinning backwards.
The transistors should be 'BC328-25' / 'BC338-25' (25v)
Replace these and all should be well.
Hope this helps
