Type in 192.168.1.1 in a browser page. A login box will open up. You will need to put the password in . If you have not set a password, then the default is admin. Leave the user name blank.
when the Linksys setup page opens, click on wireless, then on security. you will see your WEP key there.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it.
Thanks, Joe

Are you looking for wireless network password or Linksys router password?
If you are trying to connect to the wireless network then it might be asking you for the wireless network key or the passphrase.
You can open the setup page of the router and check the wireless settings.
Read Wireless network key WEP WPA

As soon has i put a wep key i am unable to connect wireless ????

You now need to add the WEP key to your wireless settings on your wireless device. Go to wireless networks, advanced network settings, find the name of your network, and add the WEP code, you will need to change the security settings to WEP.. That will fix your problem.

Thanks for using FixYa!

Got new work laptop. Need WEP key to set up wireless so can work for home. Don't know how to find the key

Hi kaa1960,

To be able to get you Network key you will need to get in the Router settings page.

  • Firs you will need an Ethernet cable to connect you computer to the Router.
  • Once you have the cable and that the Router is connected to the Compute you will need to open IE or Firefox.
  • Now on your Browser on the Address bar you will need to type in 192.168.1.1 then press Enter this should open up a windows asking for a user name and password.
  • For the User Name type in Admin and for the Password leave it Blank or it can be the other way around leave the User name Blank and the password admin.
  • this should open the Linksys setting page click the Wireless Tab or Link then the network mode or radio should be enabled to get wireless working on your Linksys Router.
  • Also third i where you can get the WEP key of your Router you may also change that if your wish to WEP can only be a 10 numerical password most Internet service providers use the phone numbers of the customer as the WEP key.
I hope that this helps.

Thank you for choosing FIxya,

I need the wep

you can find this out by connecting to your linksys router with a cat 5 cable.
in your browser such as internet explorer or firefox type
192.168.1.1
login with your login/pass that you assigned to it.
go to the wireless tab and go to security
it will show the the WEP key that is needed in order for your laptop or wireless devices to connect.
BTW I would recommended using WPA as WEP is not secured.

Laptop says no internet connection

First you need to ensure proper connection and filtering. Make sure the source cable is plugged into the Linksys router first. Direct connections must be made to the router, meaning the cable to your main computer should come from the router, not the main source.

Next make sure that the connection is made. You should see a light on the router indicating proper internet connection. Once this is accomplished, connect your main computer and you should have access to the internet on it.

Now comes the easy but somewhat tricky part (tricky only because icons can vary a little). If you haven't already done so, run the setup disk for Linksys. It's has simple, easy-to-follow instructions to set up your network. Now for the laptop. On the blue bar at the bottom of the laptop screen there should be an icon indicating internet connection. Click on that icon to show available wireless networks. Most likely your Linksys router will show up as a secure network. When you click on that connection it will ask you for a WEP key. That key is usually a 10 digit alpha-numeric key written on the back of the router. Sometimes it's on the box the router came in. Sometimes it requests a 12 digit WEP key, in which case simply add two zeros to the front of that same key. If you set up a password for your wireless network you will need that as well.

NOTE: if you have neighbors close, you should always secure your network with a password.

You may need to shut down and restart the laptop in order for the changes to take place.

It sounds confusing, but once you start you'll find that it's actually fairly straight forward. I hope this helps. Good luck!

I cannot link my my Ipod to my router. What must

Make sure that the wireless network key which you are punching is right,If it's WEP key, then try putting a dollar "$" sign before you give the WEP key.
In order to re-check the wireless network key of your router, follow following steps:

1> By default ip address of all linksys router is 192.168.1.1.Open the internet browser & clear address bar at the top completely & type default gateway of yours computer which you are getting from router
2> Default username is blank & password is "admin".Otherwise give router password.Again if it is not working type default password which you usually give to your computers
3> Finally, you will be on router setup page;in top click on Wireless tab --> Wireless Security
4> Here you can re-check that your wireless network password.

If u need technical help in order to do the above changes in router have a words with linksys technical suppoprt.

I dont know how to change the SSID Name and WEP Key.

You have to change it in the printer settings, not in the router! Otherwise you'll lose connectivity in all the other computers that use this router.
The SSID is the name you gave to your wireless network, and the WEP key is the password you set for your wireless connection.

Conecting my Brother Wireless Printer

Hello....I'll try and help you make a start.

1. To find the settings you need to set up your printer, you will need to login to your router. Open a web browser, as if to view a web page, but instead type http://192.168.1.1 into the address bar at the top.

2. If successful, you are prompted for a username and password. If you have not changed these, leave username blank , and enter password: admin. Otherwise, please enter the password you have set.

3. If you log in successfully, you should see the Linksys router configuration screen.

Select the Wireless tab, and go to ‘Basic Wireless Settings’ > Wireless network. You should see here your SSID or Wireless Network Name, as required for your printer setup.

4. Go to ‘Wireless Security’. If the ‘Security Mode’ is set to ‘Disabled’, your system is Open or unsecured: your encryption type will be ‘None’.

If, however, it is set to WEP, your WEP key should be shown below. If it is set to WPA-Personal or similar, your WPA Shared Key should be shown below. This is the key described in your posting as the WPA2-PSK or Pre-Shared Key: it is also known as the network key, security key, or passphrase.

I think this covers all the settings mentioned in your posting. For further information, SecureEasySetup, AOSS and WPS/Wi-fi Protected Setup are shortcut methods to enable security on your router. Recent versions of your router model support SecureEasySetup.

You can download a copy of the manual for your router from the Linksys site: http://www.linksysbycisco.com/US/en/support/WRT54G/download
(You will need to check your router label for the correct version number.)

I hope this helps. This advice is based on the Linksys WRT54G user manual. However, please come back to Fixya if this is not clear or does not work for you.

Trying to get cd download for linksys can't find it on site

1) Install the wireless card to your new computer first (if doesn't have any)
2) See the status of your network, go to wireless network
3) Select your wireless network and select "connect"
4) Put your WEP key (if any)

You don't need have access to your wireless router in order to get connected,
only you have to know is your wep password or key (if any) -

If you don't have any key or pass you only must to kit "connect" and that's it.

Let me know if you have further questions
