    1) What is the manufacturer code on the side of the ram memory module? 2) How many ram memory modules ('Stick'), are you using? 3) If just one, are you putting it in Slot 1? (DIMM 1) Using just one 'stick' of ram memory means putting it in Slot 1. The Processor reads Slot 1 first. 4) There are TWO ram memory slots. The Maximum TOTAL Amount for the motherboard, is 1GB. 1GB = 1024MB. EACH ram memory slot can support 512MB. It is SDR Sdram, and 133MegaHertz. (Or PC-133) Watch getting generic ram memory, and get it from a reputable dealer. Post back in a Comment.

The new RAM has a problem. Insert one at a time and power up. You may have a bad RAM stick.

SOURCE: Dell Optiplex GX240 performance problem and fan noise

The fans on Dell power supplies are rather noisy and prone to failure. Find out if the noisy fan is inside the case or inside the power supply. If your computer has become slow you should scan for viruses and spyware. If the scan does not improve things it may be time for an upgrade.

The GX240 only supports up to 1 gigabyte of RAM, you should have the maximum installed. I would not spend more than $50 upgrading this computer, you can find better used ones in the $100-$200 range.

Computer does not boot up. Keeps on coming to the same screen that say - Alert! Previous attempts at booting this system have failed at check point (Vcls). For help in resolving this problem, please...

Hello - Did you recently add or change the RAM? The error your receiving is saying there is a RAM hardware problem.
Unless you have experience with working inside the machine (adding or removing components like ram) it probably will save you aggravation in the long run to get on the phone with Dell support.
Good Luck, Mikeywaf

I have a dell gx240 im trying o make it boot and it just wont.i have used maxblast5 and 4 ive tried xp os and it wont install the hardrvives are used from an old computer, wht can i do to stsrtthe install

If your using the Dell recovery disk that came with the computer, chance are it wont install unless your using an identical hard drive as the original that was installed in it. You may need a new full OS disk. If you still have the original drive, may be able to ghost or clone the old drive and get it to work. There are quite a few programs for copying (ghosting, cloning) a complete hard drive image onto a new drive.

GeForce 8400 upgrade problem

I would try two things: One pull the GeF 8400 out and boot as you normally did, install the drivers for the 8400. Then reinsert the Vid Card (8400) and when it looks for driver viola... If that fails:
Second if you can get in at all try the old F8 key on the boot up...and see if you can get in using SAFE MODE...and install your drivers from that point. Assuming the second set fails update the video driver using device manager.
That's a great vid card...good luck..leave a rating please.
