Toggle your hold button off and on then hold the circle in the middle AND the menu button (at the same time) for about 6 seconds....until the apple sign appears on the screen. Then let go, your Ipod should boot up a few seconds thereafter. I found this solution at the Apple Ipod troubleshooting website. GOD BLESS!!!!

Is the IPod locked at the top? Or have you tried to sync it to another computer?

Try plugging it into the computer you normally sync it with. Then open iTunes.
After iTunes recognizes your nano, you can eject and disconnect the iPod from your computer.

It should be unlocked now.

If that does not work, then you'll have to restore your iPod (which will remove *all* data from the iPod).
You can do that like this:
plug it in to your computer
launching iTunes
when iTunes recognizes your nano, click on the nano, then click on "Restore" (on the "Summary" tab).

Then follow the onscreen instructions.

You'll need to resync all your music, etc. to get it back on your iPod.

Hope this helps!

My 4gb ipod has frozen with the apple log in the centre when i press menu and the centre button it goes blank then back to apple logo but will not un freeze

plug it in to your computer and see if itunes recognizes it. if so, do a full restore. If not, let the device run completely dead, then plug it in and see if that resets things. After that, a hard reset (opening the device and removing the battery) maybe your only option.

You must use iTunes with the Apple iPod. Are you? Has your computer recognized it prior to now?

Try resetting the ipod while its connected to the computer by holding both the menu and center button at the same time for 6-10 seconds until you see an apple appear on the screen. You may need to repeat the reset. If this fails your looking at a hardware issue most likely. Good Luck.
