I have two of these Toshiba laptops. One has an error with the DVD drive (Matshita DVD RAM UJ820S) and shows as an exclamation mark in device manager. I have tried reloading the drivers. SO..I swapped the drives from each laptop and guess what...the faulty drive works in the other machine and the good drive does the faulty thing in the original laptop. So I guess the DVD drive is ok but I cant get either to work in the original laptop. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Great news, I found a fix...turns out the problem was in the Registry, somehow an upgrade or installation program must have caused an alteration. Fix problem by going into Regedit and do the following: Select first: H_Key_Local_Machine\system\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class then go to: Key Name {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} Then delete all value data from the Upper and Lower Filters of this key. Do not delete Key or MultiString values. Then exit and reboot machine. This problem can occur in any XP machine.
