Podcast and music problems

All of a sudden out of nowhere when I get podcasts on my computer and snyc with my itouch they will not transfer to the itouch have no idea why also all my music  now will only play one song and repeat it over and over will not go on to next song ,I have done nothing it just started doing all this overnight anyone have a clue whats wrong?Also My main computer just died and now i am trying to sync my ipod to the new computer and it says can only sync to one computer the one that has died . How do i tell it that the first computer ad its library is no longer alive! I have no idea  any help with these problems would be great thanks . The first couple problems with the podcasts and music were before my computer died so I dont think the dying of the computer has any connection other than with the second problem with the ipod not being able to sync with my new computer which of course has none of the info on it that my itouch has on it.

Just to let you know I'm seeing very similar symptoms here, among others. I got my iPod Touch (sorry Apple, but it looks ridiculous uncapitalised) 3rd Generation 64GB a couple of weeks ago as an upgrade to an iPod Classic and, while I'm impressed overall with the Touch as a do-all convergence device, there have been a few teething troubles that I wouldn't have expected with such a mature platform.

1. Smart Playlists containing podcasts do not sync from iTunes to the device in the correct play order unless a workaround is applied. Something similar was true of the Classic, but in that case it was a different workaround. How this can happen, when the core logic should be the same across all hardware devices, is a complete mystery.

2. Live Updating does not work with Smart Playlists until the device is synced with iTunes. E.g. a Smart Playlist of all five star rated songs does not update when a song is given five stars, nor does a podcast drop from a Play Count=0 Smart Playlist once played. These worked perfectly on the Classic, so something is clearly wrong with the Touch's OS. At least podcasts can be manually deleted from the device itself, which goes some way towards working around the problem.

3. Going into the music library on the Touch for the first time after an iTunes sync will often give the Updating Library screen and this can be there for an interminable length of time. Furthermore, once the navigation screen appears the first couple of selection clicks can take several seconds to be recognised. Sometimes this happens even when nothing new was added to the library during the sync! This is inexplicable.

4. Podcasts and other tracks with Remember Playback Position selected will often lose their playback position when the Touch is synced with iTunes, even if no data transfer has taken place. This is particularly annoying when the Touch is subsequently slaved to my car's iPod dock and I have to manually fast-forward through an hour of a show (or temporarily disconnect the device and do the same from the Music screen) to get to where I left off.

5. The e-mail Fetch problem mentioned by the OP.

Of all of the quirks, the latter is the most show-stopping. Many users have defended the Touch and iPhone, in the wake of criticism that they don't offer full multi-tasking, by pointing out that the more critical applications (Mail, Contacts) do offer background polling and/or push facilities. But this is of little consequence when they stop working.

I have one e-mail account set up, which doesn't support Push (or at least Apple's broken interpretation of Push). So I have global Push disabled, Fetch selected as the method of choice for the e-mail account, and the Fetch period set for 15 minutes. WiFi is active all the time the Touch is in my house (and disabled whenever I leave) and the device is normally connected to the mains overnight.

Until a couple of days ago this seemed to work fine, then all of a sudden Mail stopped polling for new messages until it was run manually. Sometimes I can goose it into working once or twice by hard resetting the Touch, after which it stops working again.

Searching through these forums suggests that failure of Fetch to work properly -- with very similar symptoms -- was a big problem with the 2.1 software but that 2.2 fixed this for many users. My iPod Touch is running 3.1.2 so I'd have expected whatever was causing those instances to have been well debugged by now.

I've tried the various solutions suggested by other users, including hard resets, deleting and recreating account settings, forcing the Mail application to close and re-start, all with no discernable effect. One posting even suggested the problem only manifested when running on batteries, which got my hopes up greatly given that the device was on mains power for much of its first couple of weeks when Fetch worked, but alas plugging it into the mains and sending a few test messages got me nowhere.

I'll keep plugging away with others' recommendations but part of the problem is that, even if one of these suggested fixes happens to work, because I've no idea what broke it in the first place there's no guarantee the fix will be a long-term one. It could work for half an hour, or it could work for a year. There'll be no way to tell, so no sense of confidence that the problem has actually been eliminated.

At the moment this issue is annoying but tolerable. Each morning I have to manually run a handful of other programs to fetch updates for RSS feeds, usenet postings, newspaper articles etc. so having to run Mail as well isn't too much of a bind. But I don't have any critical e-mails coming in just now. Once the holidays are over that might change, and not having Fetch work at the 15 minute interval I've specified could become a lot more problematic.

Is anyone else seeing this problem with 3.x iPhones and/or Touches? If so please post details here. Perhaps we can pool our information and find a commonality because, in my experience at least, much of what's out there is either out of date or simply doesn't work.

what is the size of the podcast mp3? Many podcasts don't actually send you an mp3 of the podcast, but a link embedded in the mp3 that streams the podcast to your player of choice. (twit does this, fairly frustrating) if the mp3 is not very large, that is probably why.

I dont have any songs movies or podcasts but do have 4 and half pages of apps. it says that i have 5.11 gbs already used in the category of other, what is the problem.


You need to connect your touch to your pc open itunes ... click on the icon that is representing your touch on the left hand side of the screen. When this shows up on the main screen look at the tabs at the top the are labeled music movies podcast pictures etc etc ... you need to go into each on and select what you want on your touch.. if you want your complete library of music you would select that and then hit apply at the bottom of the page. The same goes for movies ... etc etc . if you want just certain songs from your library then go to your music make a new playlist from the (i believe) edit tab. Highlight the song you want and then right click select add to playlist. When you have selected the songs you want go back into your itouch ( using the icon on the left hand side of the screen) go the the music tab and select that playlist from the options there and sync....like wise with movies and podcasts. hope this helps

Cannont transfer podcasts to itouch from itunes


It could be a bad file. If you're resetting your device, and then adding you music and such back, there may be some bad song, or app that is corrupting your device. On my Mp3 player, it would get stuck on a song that wasn't really there, so I found some corrupt goofy Weird Al song, removed it, and it never happened again.

How do you download a podcast on the sansa mp3 clip?


Hi wyostardust,

There is a workaround to not use iTunes to subscribe to and download your favorite podcasts. This workaround is called Juiced : http://juicereceiver.sourceforge.net/ and it is free. Once you have used Juice to download all your podcasts you can then transfer them (the mp3s) to your Sansa Clip the same way you do with your music.

How do you place a podcast (MP3) into the podcast folder on the Sansa View?


Make sure you're Sansa is in MSC mode (go to settings/options, then "system settings", then "USB Mode", then MSC -- this option is available if you've updated your firmware to v01.03.02a). Connect your Sansa via USB cable and then open "My Computer", double-click on the Sansa View icon and create a new folder called "PODCAST". Place Podcasts in this folder, then close the window and "safely" remove your Sansa from the USB port. After the Sansa refreshes itself, go to "MUSIC" then "PODCASTS" and you should see your file(s)!

Placing mp3 podcasts in the podcast folder


Create a folder on your View (in MSC mode) named "PODCAST". DO NOT put it in your MUSIC folder, but in the root directory. Place your Podcasts in there and disconnect your Sansa. After it refreshes you'll find your Podcasts under "Music\Podcasts" on your View :)

Ipod nano problem


When you connected the iPod it was most likely in automatic sync mode which caused it to sync to your computer. When you restored the iPod you wiped the content out of the iPod. You will have to regather the music and podcasts you wanted at this point. I recommend creating a back up in your computer this time though. Just in case it should happen again.

Carbon Pearl: Invalid Argument


Try accessing the rio's hard drive through my computer to see if it can find the songs: they will be in a folder aptly called music within your rio carbon.

If this doesn't help then if it is picked up via my computer you could try wiping and rebooting your rio, read:

You may have to change the firmware for the rio carbon pearl but this is easy to find on their website.

I am sorry to tell u but the sandisk sansa m250 model isn't suppose to hold podcasts of any kind. It is only suppose to play music, recordings and FM tuner.

Are you downloading podcast videos or audio files?

Also, do you have your iPod to sync manually or automatically? Change it to manually if it is auto, then you can put the podcasts from your library onto your podcast folder on the ipod in iTunes.
