Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

Hi, I was trying to fix a contact issue with the bulb on my Liftmaster Chamberlain garage door opener when there was apparently a short circuit, something blew and the switch at my house power supply box got tripped. I could see a little bit of smoke after the event. I looked at the parts after taking the metal enclosure off but it isn't apparent to me what blew up. I am guessing it was a fuse but am not sure where the fuse(s) are located. Can you advise where I might find the fuses for the Chamberlain garage door opener (model 1045-6), or any other usefull advice?

There is no fuse. You damaged you logic board around $90 for the part. sounds like you have other issuses with your operator if contact issue on your bulb. You might consider replacing your operator.

Remove the bulb and try. The bulb or the socket may be radiating a signal. Unplug the opener and pull out on the center contact of the light socket. Try another bulb.

My garage door opener works fine. But the lights are not working. Changed light bulbs,Light bulbs are good, I have checked. tried bending the copper tabs in bulb socket out a bit. Still not working. ...

Make sure you are using standard 60 watt bulbs. Some newer type bulbs are causing a problem. If you have a multimeter and are handy it should be no problem to check for 110 volts at the socket and trace the wiring back to the circuit board. There may be burnt or missing traces on the board itself. The click you hear is the relay that controls the lights so you know that is working but there is always the possibility the points are bad.

The light on the garage door opener turns off immediately after the door fully opens. It should stay on for a while. How can I fix this?

Yours is not a common complaint and I am taking a stab at it but I would try unplugging the unit, removing the bulb and pulling out on the center contact in the light bulb socket. This is a common cure for light not working.

Garage Opener Lights will not come on

IF YOU CAN - TEST FOR 110V AT THE CENTER TANG OF THE LIGHT SOCKET.
IF NO POWER YOU PROBABLY HAVE A BAD TIMER CIRCUIT ON THE BOARD - NO EASY FIX NEW BOARD.
IF YOU HAVE POWER YOU MAY HAVE ISSUES WITH THE SOCKET OR ARE USING THE WRONG BULB - A STANDARD LIGHT BULB IS ALL THAT IS REQUIRED. SOME OF THE NEW BULBS HAVE A SIMILAR LOOK BUT DO NOT WORK IN A STANDARD SOCKET.
