Hi , bring up your Task Manager again and click on processes.Look for svchost and see how much resources it is using .If it is over 70% then you have likely got a virus, the svchost virus.

Dell Inspiron1410 running 50% CPU usage with no other processes running in background. This after a nice repair install of Windows XP professional. High fan noise and heating up! Thanks

Hello Saman Tarik,

Task manager may say there are no other processes running but if you look in the next tab, "Services" you will find there are many things running.
The processor will run at a lower percentage when it is not busy.
As for running hot, I would suggest that the heat sink fins need cleaning out, I was surprised at how much fluff had accumulated in them, preventing a good air flow.
I have upgraded my processor from 1.5Ghz to 2.5Ghz which runs hotter so I bought a ZALMAN ZM-NC1500 USB and the hottest my CPU has reached is 41 degrees when both cores are running at 100%.
I hope the above information is of use to you.

Kind regards,

Ron.

DELL INSPIRON 1410 idle process takes high processor usage and heats up my pc

If running Windows OS - there could be several background processes running causing this higher CPU usage.
Hitting 'CTRL/ALT/DEL' will bring up the task manager (Win98/WinXP) or a Menu which has task manager (WinVista/Win7/Win8), you can then see what background programs are running.

My Dell Latitude D620 is constantly spiking at 100% cpu, the problem arises especially when running the mouse over any program, it basically locks down my whole computer and nothing will run, it always...

It sounds like there could be a virus on your computer that is using up all of your CPU resources. Try to monitor the processes and CPU usage, buy pushing Ctrl + Alt + Del at the same time. This will open up the Task Manager on XP, or show you a menu screen on Windows Vista and 7, and you can click on start task manager at the bottom. View all your processes and how much cpu usage is being taken up from those processes. Look for the process using the highest cpu usage when it spikes to 100% and please repost the process name!

In the mean time might I suggest running and anti-virus scan, scanning for malware, and spyware as well. If you do not have any of these programs, I would suggest using either AVG, or Avira Anti-Virus, Malwarebytes, and Super Anti-Spyware, all of which are free programs that can be downloaded here!

Copy and paste the links into your browsers address bar...

AVG-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_avg_antivirus_32/

Avira-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_antivir/

Malwarebytes-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_malwarebytes_anti_malware/

Super Anti Spyware-- http://www.filehippo.com/download_superantispyware/

I have an Acer 3000. The cpu runs at 100% all the time then switches off.

Open the task manager (right click on the task bar>task manager>services panel) and locate the service that takes all the cpu power. It maybe is a virus or a trojan or an known application that can not run smothly.
Post back the results.

Thanks and regards

Acer 5100 noise from speakers and cpu runs 100%

Even though you bought the laptop used, you can try going to www.acer.com and leave a message they may be able to give you more advice.
I am thinking it could be the DVD drive or maybe even a memory issue, not really sure, maybe you need to add more memory, I think Acer will be able to help.
Good Luck.

Delayed keyboard response on Dell Inspiron E1705 Laptop

Is the mouse response sluggish as well during these times?

In most cases, it means the computer is busy with another process. The keys you press stay in the keyboard buffer until the CPU has time to process them.

Check your CPU busy time when this happens. In Windows XP, press ctl-alt-del to start the task manager, the select the processes tab to see if one process is tying up the system (by % of CPU), or press the performance tab to see CPU usage. If it is pegged at close to 100%, something is tying up the system.

Inspiron running at .00001% speed

Sounds like something software is causing the problem!
Do Ctl Alt Del
Locate the Task Manager Tab
Click on it
Click on Processes
Look at the CPU usage
See if there is a program consuming your processor
I have found that there are programs that run behind the scenes in the background of your PC without your knowledge and it is consuming CPU usage!
The other Solution would be to wipe your drive clean and do a clean install
