If you are scanning wirelessly, you have to launch the epson scan software from your computer and scan to e-mail from there. You can scan using either professional or home mode.
Please take note that scanning from the printer only supports direct connection, which means you have to plug in the printer to your computer via a usb cable.
If you cannot launch epson scan, please let me know. And include the operating system that you are using too.

Sounds like the printer may be jammed. When it goes through it's initialization process, it checks ink cartridge movement, and scanner arm, and when they don't respond correctly, the lights flash to indicate the fault(s).
Try to check for any paper jam first, and work the paper feed rollers slightly to see if they're bound up. Aside from this, it will have to be opened up most likely to see what's going on. I've seen mostly broken gears in the worst cases, but I've also seen paper jams, you just never know till you get in there. If it's under warranty, have it checked out, otherwise what have you got to lose by opening it up and investigating a bit- you might get lucky. If you choose to get it serviced, get an estimate first, since sometimes it's just better to buy a new one on sale, and the free cartridges that come with it are sometimes worth the price of the printer, so it's, basically, free. Good luck, wish I had a simple answer for you.

Testimonial: "Followed advice given but alas no joy. But thank you for a very speedy reply. Regards D. "
You must set both devices to the same encrypryption protocol, WEP or WPA. That being said, I had to setup my router using WEP - the printer refused to connect via WPA. Good luck.
