Question about Garmin Nuvi 40
Every time when I turn on my GPS, I get a little message saying "cannot unlock maps" and then another one appeared saying no detailed maps were found and must be available. When I try to input the rout, a message appears and says "map data is not available". However, my favorites are still there but when I get the GPS to set a course, it tells me the wrong directions ( like my car is off the main road) Can you help me?
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.

the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

You need to unlock the unit. I had the same problem with one that I have. Try this:
The No Detailed Maps Found That Support Routing message could be due to the following reasons:

I had the same problem. What you do is place your finger in the lower right corner where the green button would be and cut it on. When the prompt comes up, click yes. when the no detailed maps comes up again, hold down the green button again. You should then be able to upload the maps.

I am very sorry to hear that you are having problems with the unit. You
may need to switch the unit on and press and hold the centre of the
screen until the message ?No detailed maps? message disappears.
If your map detail is missing, then the map information may have been
disabled. To check to see if the mapping has been disabled, follow the
From the Where to? and View Map page, touch the Spanner icon, settings
Touch Map Info.
The unit should display the name of the map that is loaded to the unit.
The box in front of the map name should have a tick in it. If it does
not, touch the box to place a tick in it.
Then please test by searching for an address.
