Question about LG Flatron W2243SPF Widescreen LCD Monitor
My monitor keeps on flickering and then the screen goes black, I have to keep turning it off and on, what can I do to correct this?
Try another good monitor, if it solves the problem replace the monitor if not replace the computer.

SOURCE: monitor flashing
I have a similar problem with my screen, same one, 15". For a period of two years it would turn black for an instant and resume functioning. Since two weeks it only flashes the picture for an instant and then turns black again. We opened it up to check the wiring but nothing wrong there. We are 99.99% sure that the problem is in the screen itself and has nothing to do with drivers or anything else in the computer.
If you bought it less than 3 years ago and since it is probably a result of faulty construction, it should fall under warranty (by european law).
I am going to take mine to a repairman tomorrow, i will inform you wether the screen can be repaired or not.

I called LG customer service today when my monitor went out (see previous posting) and they mentioned that it looks like it is a backlight issue. There is usually one of three things wrong when the backlight starts to go out - total blackness after coming on for a second, the power supply to the light is going out, or there are lines on the display in several areas.
Anyway, after talking to LG they are sending me some return labels and I will ship them this monitor and they are going to replace it. The monitors have a 3 yr warranty and this model is only a couple of years old. So call customer service and have them send you a new one. We'll see how it goes from here.

Just fixed mine :)
Biggest mistake was to try to open the monitor itself :( But I didn't brake anything :D
You just have to gently open the transformer unit (power brick) and replace two identical 1000uF 16V capacitors.
Remove the power cord first, to discharge the capacitors to avoid any nasty shocks when inside. Remove two rubber feet on the bottom side of the power brick. Just use your nail and lift them. Put them safely for later assembling. Unscrew two screws you just found under the removed feet. Now you have to unlock the other side held together by plastic locks. Try to apply pushing force and toque with screwdriver just where the seam is meeting the power cord socket's edge. Look for two identical capacitors and check if the tops are bulged of broken. I assume they are but you can try this method anyway. When the unit is disassembled you'll have to unsolder at least one of the wires that hold shielding plate on the bottom of the circuit board. Then unsolder the two capacitors (1000uF 16V). Replace them with the same type (1000uF) and the closest voltage possible. I have replaced mine with 1000uF 24V ones and so far I'm typing :D
That's it. If you have done this and looked for other damaged capacitors and replaced them also... Well then good luck disassembling the monitor unit and checking on inverter and lamps ;)

Either the power supply or the backlight is going bad. Replacing either will be expensive ... might be better off replacing the monitor.
