Here is how I fixed my 450.

You have to open the case, which invalidates the warranty.

First, remove the case front - http://global.dymo.com/img/compel/cRydqiFncuah2s6Pf5DxrozTFsn13Cnc.pdf

Undo 2 long screws (front) and 2 short screws(rear) underneath the case.

Remove side panels and base carefully as there are ribbon connectors to the base which might get damaged.

You will see two metal pins at the left front, partially hidden by a ribbon cable - do not damage the ribbon!

There is a notch on the metal part of the platen lever which goes against the front pin.

The hole in the metal part then gets pressed down until it catches on a groove in the second pin.

Do it in that order or it is likely to just pop off again.

You then spend several hours getting all the bits of the case to fit back together. Put the front on last.

Mine is now working but I accept no responsibility for what happens to yours!

SOURCE: dymo 400 labelwriter does not print unless shut down and rebooted

It could be how you have loaded the labels. If you have loaded the labels and there is a small gap between the spindle and the roll, it will print one label and give a error-printer message and stop working until you unplug it for 30 seconds and plug it back in. I would reload the labels from scratch and ensure there is no gap.

SOURCE: Dymo labelwriter 400 Turbo -We replaced the roll

There are a few common reasons this is problem can exist.

1.) the incorrect template is used when creating the label

2.) the labels are installed incorrectly - the labels must be loaded and pushed against the left side of the printer and lid closed when printing to ensure the labels don't "wander" out of the sensor's view.

3.) the label sensor is covered by some debris - sometimes a label jam can cause a piece of label to become stuck on the underside of the sensor thus blocking its view. Use quality Dymo labels.

4.) The labels are defective - if you have another roll of the same size, try it to see if it has the samme issue.

The sensor cannot be disabled. DYMO printers (including the 450 series) are hard-wired to only work properly with genuine DYMO labels.

We have recently printed and applied hundreds of asset sticker labels on our Dymo LabelWriter 450 and they have all faded! Is there a solution to this? or is the Dymo LabelWriter only useful for temporary...

LabelWriter labels are sensitive to sunlight. The coating is what allows to burn text onto them because LabelWriters do not use ink.

They are not supposed to fade easily so it may have been an old roll. Please contact our help desk for a resolution (see dymo.com for contacts).

Spits out multiple blank labels and reports a printing error

I just fixed my coworker's Dymo, which had the same problem. I hope this helps: if you've ever fed it labels in the wrong direction (upside down), you may have jammed it and left a piece of a label glued to one or more of the sensors that let the labelmaker know it's finished printing a label.

1. Disconnect your labelmaker
2. Disconnect/remove any unused labels and set them aside.
3. Remove the face plate (with the DYMO LabelWriter 400 logo)
4. Lift the gray plastic lip (labels go under this) and make sure there are no pieces of paper/labels in there.
Once I removed a piece of an old label and put the LabelWriter back together it started working well again.
