I bought a used gateway shd 3010 LCD and after turning it on, the screen goes black but I can still hear audio. I turn it off and back on and the picture returns....yet 2 to 10 minutes later it goes black again. The process repeats for maybe 8 to 10 sequences and finally stops with a steady picture. Is something not warming up or do I have a defective part?

If it's not, and you are tech savvy, start looking for bulging or leaking electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and inverter sections of the TV. This is almost always the issue in a case like this, and replacing those bad caps should fix you right up. Otherwise, it's time to take it to a shop, or just get a new one.
My monitor has been switching connections on me randomly. Hit the menu button. The one to the left of the power butter when facing the screen. Hit the left arrow twice then hit the menu button again. This will open up the screen where you can choose one of three inputs. I'm going to assume that it is on the incorrect input so use the arrow keys highlight what input you are using and the hit menu button again and your screen should return to normal. Mine only does this randomly when it goes into screen saver, hibernate or sleep. I don't know how to permanently get it to stop doing it though.
I may be able to fix it for you
I believe the problem is in the same board that causing the strobing screen problem.
Cost is 150 to repair the problem board if it isfixable. No charge if not fixable.
You will have to pay round trip shipping for the monitor and power supply to Pennsylvania.
Here is the solution. I have had this problem for 2 or 3 YEARS... (I finally gave up and just changed the channel manually).
The solution is exceedingly simple. You'll want to punch yourself (or at least, I did... :-P )
Press Menu. Press Menu. Press Menu (3 times total) THEN, scroll down to "Channel Fix"
It will say either "3" or "4." What this does is it makes it so that your HDTV is always on channel 3 (or 4) when you turn on the device... AND it apparently disables the channel functions of the remote control, for some inexplicable reason.
All you have to do is change this setting from "3" or "4" to --> "OFF"
You will now have full channel and button control.
There's a couple capacitors you need to replace. On the video board, not the power supply board. There is (3) 470uf16v on the video board. They have to be the smaller ones, you can not use the larger ones (they will not sit flush onto the board) Any questions, e-mail me at Andrew@CreativeAudio.biz
